What an interesting opportunity to see how creativity helped someone get through one of their most difficult periods in their life.
Update: In the meantime, I've listened to the audio book, also worthy of at least five stars. I'll be listening to it again, too.
Amazing and funny and wonderful and heart-wrenching. I read it a few pages at a time, because I didn't want it to end. I'll be re-reading it soon.

I really enjoy the pithy tweets of Duchess Goldblatt and the way they are woven into this tale, but as a whole it's not quite as good as its parts.
I was not prepared for how much heart is in this book. I was expecting it to just be about the anonymous author's shenanigans as a fictional character on social media, but it's so much more than that. The author has longed for belonging, and when a divorce shatters her dream of joining a large, gregarious family, she's left feeling alone and aimless. Duchess Goldblatt becomes a way to take her mind off herself and do something fun, but along the way, becomes an unexpected path toward healing and friendship. The pages of this book are rich with wisdom. Highly recommend.
Loved the idea of the book , but it got painfully boring
Wow, this memoir knocked my socks off. I had no expectations going in; I didn't even know of Duchess Goldblatt. So much to think about and to return to in this story of loss, pain, and healing joy. I plan to read it many times (and to maybe even listen to it again).
Also, for you audiobook peeps, I thought the narrator was great.

Fascinating to read this alongside “What It Takes to Heal.”
I see an immensely sad, anxious person who found a way to heal and connect with themselves and the world at a very specific social media moment.
The Duchess Goldblatt quotes felt so cringe and dated, even though this was during my heyday and I would’ve completely been into it at the time!
Funny and lighthearted but with a deep undertone of sadness underscoring it all. At times it felt disingenuous in that it masked what could be earnestness in whimsical jokes, but I imagine such sadness is like trying to touch a hot pan. You need a buffer, or you can only do it for a little bit at a time before it hurts too much.

If you like Johann Hari's research on loneliness and the power of community (srsly.. go watch his TedTalk or any podcast he's a guest on...) or if you enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, you'll enjoy this one!
Why are so many hilarious books so closely entwined with deep sadness??
Do yourself a favor and invite Duchess Goldblatt into your life. :)

This was a birthday gift. Spent the whole time reading it trying to figure out what the gifter was trying to tell me. I think it’s because the writer is struggling in their life and also the mental illness of their family and I’m most famously known to all my relatives as being mentally ill. I recommend this book to rich white middle aged women on the internet. I shouldn’t have read this whole book but I like to finish things and now I can give her away and check her off my currently reading list
