Reads like fanfic. Grown-up Anne and Gilbert are annoying and everyone is so cloying.
Goodbye rebellious badass Anne, hello Good Christian wife Anne. How dare she contradict Gilbert! THE MAN. How dare she write anymore, she is a WIFE NOW. Gilbert who valued her feistiness and intelligence is now condescending and sexist, when he is even present.
And the whole mess with Leslie Moore… I wanted Anne to tell Gilbert to f*ck off and run away with Leslie. The plot with Gilbert and Leslie’s husband…. And Captain Jim. Yes let us do everything in our power — go way out of the way! — to get the abusive husband back with his child-bride.
As always the best part is the setting descriptions. Too bad Anne is an angelic Christian virtue Mary Sue and all the new characters (who start off interesting!) are forced into marriage and stereotypical gender roles (that some of them were free of for most of the book!) instead of getting actual development.

The story was watered down after the first couple of books, but this is where I started to feel that Anne's personality and ambition have dissipated tremendously compared to the start. The other characters were taking up much more space than Anne's story, and while I found that humorous for a while, the story loses direction without the constant introduction of new characters.
I started reading it two days ago and got really hooked and had to force myself to stop reading in the middle of the night.
In comparison with Anne of Windy Willows so far it is more familiar, more "Anne".
And with all it`s kitsch it is still an honest book.
Wonderful and realxing read all in all.
