3.5. Still lovely nostalgia, but some bits were a bit...rambling.

I swear, whomever told me this book is the one they skip when rereading Anne’s series because SHE GIVES UP HER EDUCATION FOR A LIFE WITH GILBERT... you’re making me look crazy, because this book might be my favorite in the series so far. And the feminist in me is well pleased with this book.
Anne’s House of Dreams is book five and we FINALLY get to Anne and Gilbert getting married and starting married life and creating a family. Once again, a new place, full of new and unique characters, ready to capture your heart.
The characters in this book are special and my heart connected with Leslie, Anne’s neighbor, who has been stuck in a loveless marriage. She and Anne have many sweet moments together, teaching each other about life and love and empathy (meaning LMM is teaching us). Miss Cordelia had me constantly cracking up over her man hating, and Captain Jim had to be the sweetest and kindest soul to grace these pages...in fact, I’m convinced he was Matthew reincarnated.
Anyone who denies theirselves this book is truly missing out. I read a quote from C. S. Lewis today about how any children’s book that is written only for children is a bad book. And although Anne is considered juvenile fiction, it hits my heart so much as an adult. L. M. Montgomery has treated us to so much of her own life in these stories. She too lost a baby. She too was stuck in a loveless marriage. And she had the honor of meeting so many unique and lovely individuals in her life. We can all learn from these books!

I don't know if this is considered a spoiler so read at your own risk.
To me this isn't Anne anymore. So much so that I couldn't finish it. I couldn't help wondering why I was following the life of this interesting, ambitious creature just for her to end up a houswife with annoying children. I feel like all the adventure had died. I know growing up is a part of life but somehow I wish she had stayed the same old kindred spirit.
