I truly love this book. Anne's House of Dreams is a definite improvement on Anne of Windy Poplars, and whilst it was sad to say goodbye to the Avonlea characters, the new ones very quickly became excellent replacements. We get to meet Susan Baker, who is a major character for the rest of the series, and she quickly became one of my favourite characters. This book also gets the honour of being one of the few in existence to properly make me cry, after events that result in Anne truly leaving her childhood naivety behind.

This book had a totally different tone from the other books. It didn't have the Anne I know and love enough in it. In the usual Anne's place was a brooding girl who was hard to like.

This book kind of just skims over her life after getting married to Gilbert. It's kind of annoying that the authour doesn't go more in depth about some stuff like the wedding and Anne's first child.

There really was something different about that one... maybe it was that Anne and Gilbert were now together... it was almost unbelievable to read it. And for the first time, we had to face a deeply and truly sad Anne. What we thought was a drama in the last books was just nothing compared to her suffering in this one. Was interesting to see how her character evolved.

Another audiobook I enjoyed while working in a New Zealand backpackers. I once again really adored the new characters we got to meet (and dearly missed some of the previous books!), but the stories and snippets of Anne’s life we got to read about (or in my case listen to) were not all too captivating. Especially the huge time jumps throughout the book really irked me somehow. Also, lots of the themes and topics of the books begin to get really repetitive - there is always a complicated love story that turns out good in the end, always the death of a loved one. And I just don’t enjoy grownup wife and mother Anne as I enjoyed young, adventurous, spirited Anne. So, I guess all books from this point on are probably less likely to entertain me. Still cherish Anne of Green Gables above all!
