A bit more dull, a lot more heavy-hitting. Just far more mature a story in tone and some events.

Much more poignant after having my own child. The relationship with Leslie was such a full friendship compared to the gentle love with Diana... as is appropriate to a woman versus a child. I can see why I didn't care for these last books nearly as much as a kid, although the writing is beautiful still.

Ooooh, this series is yet to be a disappointment! I love this book wholeheartedly!
This book in the series revisits all the elements that I loved in the first couple of books. I cant help but love the characters and story to be told, so glad that Gilbert and Anne got live out their love story.
I have been working my way through a few 'blasts from my past', re-reading some of the books that I've really enjoyed over the years. I loved this series, reading all about Anne and following her on her 'adventures'. These books were a big part of my growing up and teenage years, they bring back a lot of very fond memories.
Never my favorite of the Anne books (though ranks far above Anne of Avonlea, which I loathe, and Anne of Ingleside, which I find twee)- but it's a beautiful and comforting book in many ways. The charm and drama of it is all in the side characters, especially Leslie and Captain Jim. I don't mind Anne being domestic- LM Montgomery has other characters who follow their ambitions (notably Emily Starr); Anne doesn't have to be a writer as well. But Montgomery doesn't seem to be very good at making actual plot and drama from marriage, at least not a happy marriage (though the loss of Anne's baby- the one dramatic thing that does happen to her- is sensitive and sad). Mostly, we are caught up in the supporting characters instead, which is fine.
