I've always loved the Anne of Green Gables books, but out of all of them, I think this one got a bit telenovela lol. Not that I don't appreciate some good drama, and Anne has had her fair share, but this book felt like it went beyond what was necessary sometimes. Overall though I adore reading about Anne and Gilbert's relationship, especially having grown up reading about their camaraderie and seeing what it blossomed into. It's definitely still a world full of characters I love and beautiful language made for romantics.

I think this might be my favourite of the Anne of Green Gable's books. It was so lovely to see her with Anne in their new home! All the new characters were a pleasure to hear from, especially Captain Jim although it was a shame to no longer have Diana and Marilla such integral parts of the story (but I guess just as people grow and move on, Anne must move on with her life)

high 3 stars.

“the race of joseph always remembers one another.”

unfortunately it seems as though anne’s house of dreams will not savor as well as the first four did, but providence in all its ethereal, dreamlike beauty remains special. the story was slow moving, and very conservative in its writing (a stark contrast from the first four books , especially in the depiction of anne as the protagonist), but at its core, it was still a book in the anne of green gables series so, how bad could it really have been? lucy maud you never fail.

also one book closer to finally allowing myself to finish the annE netflix original <33

Looking back, all the books were setting up for this. LM Montgomery's own loss was reflected in Anne's story.

Such sorrow over little Joy.

But such joy for James Matthew (and his wonderful namesake Captain Jim!)

Toch eindig ik het lezen van de serie altijd hier. Wat een saai vroom miepje is Anne geworden nadat ze getrouwd is!

A book that's both sad and uplifting. Not the best of the series, but still an integral link.

3.5 this book was marred by sooooo much sadness, that I’d move to know what LMM had experienced to mark it on these pages. Loss, Heartbreak, Infant Loss..... goodness.

I still enjoyed the writing and the beauty of the landscape, but could not get over the very dire tones personified in this book.
