fabulous sequel to the first book the hannah vogel series, a trace of smoke. this book was just as compelling and suspenseful as the last. one thing i appreciated about this book (and the author) was that the book picks up a little past where the action left off last time...about 3 years later. though cantrell does provide readers with reminder details of the last book, she doesn't spend a 1/3 of the book rehashing the last bit of plot. i SO appreciate that. one of my new favorite authors! can't wait to keep reading the rest of the series. :)

Sequel to "A Trace of Smoke," in which our heroine--who escaped Germany in the last book--find the zeppelin on which she's traveling diverted back to Germany and once again has to connive her way through a Germany that has become very suspicious of itself. Set against the backdrop of the "night of long knives," a three day period during which people who disagreed with Hitler were executed without trial, an act which was made retroactively legal after it happened.

I did not like this book as much as the first in the series. Although I overall thought the story was good, I didn't feel the connection between Hannah and Anton, so I found some of her actions unbelievable.

Still good, but I'd like to see characters who are struggling with their involvement with the Nazis fleshed out a bit more. Hannah is so absolute in her opposition that it colors the narrative and blunts the otherwise good descriptions of life in Nazi Germany.

While I did not enjoy this book as much as the first one it was still very easy to sink into and Hannah is still one of the most formidable female characters I've read in a while.

She is strong, and yet at times her vulnerability is what draws me in more than anything else. Her life is one of quickly made decisions and thinking on her feet.

The suspense in this novel is rich, and yet it didn't capture my attention as much as the first however it remains an interesting piece of historical fiction which had me reaching for more information about the time and finding only that Rebecca Cantrell's research is immaculate.

I didn't finish this sadly:(

The entire premise was far fetched in my opinion and a lot of the decisions Hannah was making didn't fit her character at all.

This is such an excellent series! As a writer and an historian, Rebecca Cantrell excels!

The second installment of the Hannah Vogel series did not disappoint. Again as the reader I was drawn into to her story immediately. This is a must read series, I am anxiously waiting to read the third book. Once again, the storyline was fast paced and interwoven with enough true facts about Nazi Germany it felt more like a nonfiction than fiction. Action packed and fast moving.
