seasidesun's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 26%

Apparently I’m not a fan of retells with a different main character. I also still hate the writing style and internal babble.

3 stars only because I would have given the other 3 Grey books 3 stars. Story is enticing bc of that what's taking place, not to much bc of the writing. If you read the other 3, and enjoyed them, you'll enjoy this. If you didn't particularly like the first 3, you probably won't like this... Haha helpful, I know.

My takeaway is how incredibly gut wrenching his account of his childhood is :(

I enjoy reading books from the other characters point of view. It was nice to see inside the mind of Christian Grey. Reading extended scenes or scenes that happened off the page from the first book were enlightening. We got quite a lot more of Christian's thoughts and memories of his childhood. We got a look into his relationship with Elena (Mrs. Robinson), his prior submissive, and we got to see how he was falling in love with Ana, even though he was fighting it and didn't feel he deserved her.

This book covers book one in the Fifty Shades series and I hope to see Christian's point of view of Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed.

This one was a bit painful to read and sadly, a waste of time.

Really enjoyed Christian's POV. He comes across much more likable once you know what's going through his mind. I was hesitant to read this after seeing some of the bad reviews, but am really glad I read it. I loved the first 3 books in the series, and Grey didn't disappoint.

First Read: I love it...I loved the original 3 and I loved this. Don't judge this from what you have heard...open the book and read with your own mind. You just might be surprised to find that it isn't just all that you have heard

Second: I listened to this as an Audiobook this time and I have to say that I loved it even more.

PRAISE THE LORD! I'M FINISHED WITH THIS SHIT!
Now I'm not longer feeling the need to burn the whole world down.

Seriously. Why would someone read this and think this is a good story? Why? Just WHY? Can somebody explain that to me? I'm honestly curious.
This is not a well-written story. The writing style is not good at all. It's neither captivating nor poetic. It's not even mediocre. It's just plain bad.

The story is so fucking thin. I mean, the story of the original trilogy overall isn't the greatest. But condensed into one book with 500 pages it would have been fine. Not good, but fine. But 3 fucking books with 500+ pages? Seriously?

The characters are not good. That's all I'm going to say. Otherwise I'm going to lose my shit.

But I don't know if I just got used to it or if Christian's POV just didn't make the characters feel as annoying as through Anastasia's POV.

Soo... If my point wasn't clear, this book series is shit. Don't waste your time. Please. Do the world a favor and don't buy these novels so that someone will have the glorious idea that they should do something similar to this. Don't do it. Save the world. Please.

Not as good as the first 3 and mainly because its in the male perspective which I felt EL James struggled with. I understood that this was the same story and therefore going to have less impact than the original series unlike some reviewers. However I think understanding the how Grey changes for Ana and trying to write that in his words has fallen far short. As that was the part that attracted me to the book in the first place I have been left disappointed but not surprised. On the upside the editing is much improved.

I thought it would be better, I wanted to see a side to him like most of us believed. Christian grey falls in love basically for the first time but it felt like he only cared about having sex with her. Yes it's hard for him but...you know. it's good though, nice to get away from the "inner goddess"
