Extraordinary. A young woman shouldering the responsibility of an ailing parent, lovingly told. This was a touching and wonderful story. It’s been 6 years since I lost my dad, and I related to Maddie’s grief and frustration. Highly recommended.

Totally character bonded with Maddie. So nice to relate with a character and read a culturally beautiful story. Definitely a book will re-read.
Good book processing family, life, blackness, expectations and mental health. Got a lil teary there at the end. Grew to really like Maddie

i love love love this book. it's so relatable. the ghanaian experience of having immagrant parents in a western country is something not everyone experiences. it's so particular to each household but we all share similarities, like aunties on your case for not knowing how to speak a local language.
this book truly was amazing. shu is my favourite character even though she didn't get that much screen time. maddie you deserve so much love babe.

Refreshing! I especially liked the central protagonist in the irresistible twenty something Maddie Wright.
Maddie (‘Maame’ and people pleaser) and Subconscious Maddie (assertive, open and authentic) finally meet, thanks to friends who’ll always be there and therapy. She blossoms!
