ould you imagine if your favorite fantasy book characters came to life?

I’ve been sitting here for the past 45 minutes wondering how to explain this book to you & honestly I still don’t know what to say so I’m just going to say what comes to mind & hope in the end that it will make sense! I don’t think I have ever read anything like this book! This is a wonderful story that draws you in from the beginning & once you start getting farther in & start to pull back the layers you're done you won’t be able to put it down! There are a lot of layers & even something in the background that you aren’t 100 percent sure what it is but you know it's there! Just wow! It’s gripping, dark, suspenseful, haunting, sad & so much more! I really don’t know how to put it into words without giving much away! The author has truly crafted an amazing wonderful book! You’ll jut have to read it & see for yourself!

Fantastic concept, the story within the story was stunning. Only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is that I found the writing style a little jarring - a lot of repetition, shifts in perspectives that weren't always clear, putting "well" in place of really, which was just amusing from a Brit perspective as I just kept naturally reading it in the form of our slang. If the technical writing areas were smoothed out, I'd go as far as to say this could be a horror masterpiece.

Lord of the Flies meets Wind in the Willows.
It is extremely violent and includes a pet peeve of mine, the current hipster definition of the word, nonplussed (it's supposed to mean surprised or confused, but the new usage of it means the opposite, as in unperturbed) but the fable woven into the survival tale is enchanting.
I rate this three stars for the story's originality and the writer's capacity to make me care about what happened to its characters. The lower rating is reflective of the gushy use of adjectives and dialog that felt improbable for people dealing with those circumstances.

This would have been more powerful if everyone in the story didn't seem to require at least two death scenes and there was not so much attention given to the frog's culinary creations. I was more than ready for the book to end when it did.
