I enjoyed the whimsy and imagery of this book, but the pacing was off, the foreshadowing was anything but subtle, and it wasn’t all that enjoyable or interesting. I really wanted to like it, but it wasn’t a hit for me.

It took a WHILE to get really interested in this book. I'm talking like almost halfway through. I considered quitting it, but I'm glad I didn't. I do wish that some more questions had been answered, but overall it was good.
I swear I wish I loved this book, as so many of you have and will, but I just did not quite enjoy it. It did evoke many emotions, especially at the end, and I enjoyed the writing, but I found myself looking forward to starting my next book over and over. The deus ex machina was predictable and got tiresome since it was repetitive. The plot twist was interesting and I enjoyed the depth of character the cast was written with. So plus one star for these attributes.
I have only rated 3 as I just found it difficult to read, I can't really give it a genre as I have no clue?? Fantasy / horror / slasher?? Maybe a little!! It was a mix between Animals of Farthing Wood meets Scream!! It was a slow start but then fast paced and probably deserved more than my 3 stars - but like I said just not my usual genre - little too surreal for me!! But not a bad book and it didn't make me want to put down. The animals at first all make you want to like them even though there are clues as to how the book is going to go from the start!! Read it even if not your usual, still worth reading for something different!!

A somewhat whimsical and brutal horror/thriller novel, set on a remote island which is populated by storybook characters. This was a slightly odd, but enjoyable read.
