This was pretty good, much more sad than I was expecting. Very interesting premise and fast paced story, I personally never got bored reading it.

I find myself just...not fathoming this book. It's a phenomenal premise that, in my opinion, takes much too long to warm up (almost a hundred pages before things turn to horror). But then...the horror is somewhat tempered by a profound sadness and grief throughout. This isn't entertainment. It's fascinating, but not enlightening. It's beautifully written but I understood so little of why anyone (human or animal) did what they were doing...the illustrations were beautiful but, again, not related to the story's action unless it was all an analogy or a metaphor, in which case...where was the lesson?
Honestly, I may need to revisit this one. It may just be beyond me at this point. I couldn't tell you much about it, except that it was written in bright bold color with the air of a fevered nightmare, and making about as much sense as such.

I had a good time with this book. I wish the ending was a little more concise or things had been explained a bit more, but I really liked it. It was just long in a few places where it felt like it was dragging

I can give a lot of forgiveness for the fact that its the authors debut work I cant help but feel like the pacing was very off. It kind of felt like the author forgot that books are supposed to have an ending and then rushed it.

En verdad quería amar este libro, pero no sucedió.
Los puntos buenos:
La premisa es interesante, un grupo de amigos que van a la isla en la que vivió el autor de su cuento favorito en la fecha en que transcurre ese cuento, sólo para descubrir que este no era completamente ficticio, pero sí muy retorcido.
Las referencias al extractivismo y explotación de otras civilizaciones y el choque cultural provocado por este encuentro.
Lo malo:
La prosa y estilo no me gustaron, hay palabras rebuscadas (para que suene más a cuento auntiguo, quizás) y la estructura de las oraciones dificulta la lectura. Me resultó desalentador leer una historia que siempre trata de sonar a acertijo y musical a la vez.
Los personajes me resultaron de lo más olvidables, incluso las criaturas del cuento. No sé si es precisamente por la forma en que se describen las interacciones y su carácter, pero ninguno me pareció especialmente interesante.
El ritmo es lento a más no poder, las primeras 100 páginas son sólo referencias al libro una y otra vez, con algunas escenas que quieren dejar entrever lo que ocurrirá después, pero los augurios no consiguieron mantenerme enganchada.
La trama en sí no es mala, pero lo más "interesante" del libro tarda muchísimo tiempo en pasar (¿ya mencioné que el ritmo me pareció lentísimo?), e incluso cuando piensas que terminó...resulta que hay más.
Tuve que forzarme a terminar el libro porque fue una lectura que tenía pendiente desde diciembre y la verdad, no se la recomiendo a nadie. Hay muchos reviews positivos, léanlos y quizás cambien de opinión y decidan darle una oportunidad. Los temas que trata son interesantes, pero la ejecución definitivamente no fue para mí, por eso las 2 estrellas y no una.

this is really difficult to rate. I felt extraordinarily moved by both the beginning and the end but the middle dragged on, which is not my thing, especially for such a short novel.
I really wish there was better character development because all the violence began to blur together, we barely know any of the secondary characters’ names before they die.
besides that, this story is wonderfully weird, the prose is EXQUISITE, and the overall lesson/themes presented in here are very very meaningful to me personally
