Sometimes that Hannah does some shady things... b&e for one... but the mysteries are entertaining and the recipes have been dutifully bookmarked. Which one to try first?

I would say this book/series is an adult version of Nancy Drew. Hannah is consistently finding herself in the middle of gruesome murders that she insists on solving. The killer was predictable once you met all the characters. There's a very interesting love triangle between Hannah, Norman (a dentist), and Mike (a detective). Hannah is just happy with her cat, Moishe. How do you even pronounce that? Would recommend for an easy, light read.

Gonna be honest- didn't like this book in the series as much as some others. Hannah and Andrea were together a lot during this book, and their relationship just seemed so one-dimensional and problematic. I have a sister who gets on my nerves too, but Hannah came off as feeling really superior to Andrea. She treats her sister like she's a five-year-old, saying things like "Very good, Andrea," anytime her sister figures out something in the mystery. Of course, it doesn't help that Andrea pretty much only follows Hannah around, complaining about the cold and telling Hannah how smart she is. She just becomes a sound-board for every "clever" idea Hannah has. Then, Hannah gets really mad at Mike for not letting her get involved with police business just because she solved two murders. Yes, Hannah, you're good, but Mike can't change the freaking law to satisfy your whims. She just seemed very full-of-herself and over-confident in her own intelligence.

It's a cop-out, but the Hannah Swensen mysteries really only need a lump review:
For some reason, I keep reading these when they show up at the library. I don't know why. Do I enjoy them? Sure. They're trashy murder mysteries that don't always make sense. I can huff at them in irritation when the main character does, or thinks, something especially stupid. They involve recipes.
Actually, the books are formulaic enough that they themselves were written by recipe.
Yes, I will keep reading them, assuming that new books keep showing up on the library shelves. I will enjoy them, and I will probably root for Norman as Suitor of the Day. But no, I will not be spending any money on these books.

I had a fun time reading it, even though the plot was kind of predictable. I wasn’t really a fan about Hannah’s self deprecating jokes about her weight though, but I suppose those were more normalized back when this book was published.
