"Strawberry Shortcake Murder" is a badly dated cozy.
"Strawberry" was published in 2001, but it feels like it should be at least ten years older than that. A lot of this is because Fluke turns small-town Minnesota into country bumpkinville. At a time when US households were getting the internet and a few years after dvds started to be released, the characters lecture each other on how to use a VCR and tell each other about different sizes of VCR tapes. That characters could buy a sandwich and drink for only two dollars made it feel even older. I'm guessing Fluke thinks making her characters out-dated and (often ridiculously dumb) is charming, but it just made me want to throw something. I spent a week or so in Minnesota each summer at just about the time this was written, and this is nothing close to the Minnesota I saw or the Minnesotans I met, whose only "quirky" quality was playing duck-duck-gray duck instead of duck-duck-goose.
Overall, this series is just for those who like their cozies old-fashioned and saccharine.

Another fun cozy mystery involving murder in Lake Eden. This one had lots of suspects and was pretty tricky; didn't guess it until about the time Hannah did. I really enjoy these characters and like to watch their relationships progress. Hope to see more of Hannah with Mike and Norman. I will definitely continue with this cozy series.
Another fun outing with Hannah Swensen. I really like these, but not sure I'll get through all thirty. LOL Seriously, I really love Hannah. She's a great, gutsy gal, full of gumption. Her sister Andrea is really beginning to shine as well, and I love Lisa, her bakery partner. The little romantic competition with Mike and Norman is fun too. And her mom is great. I think we all know a meddling mom like that. Not to mention the recipes - I've tried only one so far, but plan on doing more.
I had really high hopes for this one- a bakery owner in a small town who happens to be a great hobbyist detective? Sign me the heck up!
However, 57 pages into this cozy mystery, the author just randomly breaks into an anecdotal, conservative white lady rant about *~the politically correct campaign*~ and why they can’t use the other “I” word to describe Indigenous people….
Honestly, this was just the messiest, unnecessary, most entitled tangent. Had it not existed I honestly would have probably just gone on reading thinking this was an average cozy mystery.
I am a little blown away that someone edited this, and was like “this can stay!” Then, it was published and uh- this author is still writing? coolcoolcool
Maybe your racist aunt would like this? 0/5 would not recommend.

Cozy Mystery Goodness
This series is my first foray into cozy mysteries and I think I have found what is missing in my literary life.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed the simplicity of this cozy mystery. It was a quick, easy read, and I liked the development of the relationship between Hannah and her sister. There are quite a few references to weight that I could definitely do without. Hannah became marginally more likable in this one, and I’m hoping that she grows on me more as I work through this series.
Book #50 read in 2006
Fairly predictable, but a fun read nonetheless. I enjoy this series for some mindless reading. I will definitely continue to read the series!

Hannah and her friends are going to be in a bake off. But when the local high school coach gets murdered and the cops suspect the battered wife, Hannah knows she isn't the killer, so she's going to figure it out herself. But she may have a few issues along the way.
This book was okay. I liked the mystery, and Hannah and her sister together. What I really didn't like was the two love interests she had, because it really felt like I missed something or there wasn't anything there because they just out of nowhere acted jealous of each other.
That was annoying, but other than that I liked the book and I do look forward to more in this series.
