This book had me fully sucked in from cover to cover. The sense of time and scale the author is able to convey is hypnotic. I’ve seen the film twice, and while I found the film to be impressive, but it fails to raise the questions the book brought to my mind.

A re-read but its been a long while. I was never a huge fan of the movie - too weird, too obscure. I remember being surprised at how much clearer the book was than the movie.
On this read I think the book improved over time. Which is not something I expect from science fiction. In lots of ways it ends up feeling very modern.
It also felt like a set of only semi connected short stories. I'm not sure that the murder mystery in the middle was really necessary, although the out of control AI hasn't gone away as a trope. And then whole story goes over the top and is confused at the end.
But through it all, it was impressive - a more worthwhile read than I expected.
