I don’t want to do it, but I decided to DNF the book at 52%. I really wanted to like it, but I found it hard to care about the characters or what happened to them. Didn’t understand how Nandy could be mad with Trice over something he couldn’t control, especially as a child. I soft DNF’d the book last year because I found Nandy annoying. This was my second attempt to read it and it didn’t go so well.

2.5? Idk there were parts I liked... Somewhat cliche but with twists. I really liked that ultimately Trice didn't have to get in trouble to learn f on his experiences. I just could not with Nandy. I think she was very cliche and yet she didn't learn or grow like Trice did. Also I did NOT like the narration. Nandy sounded bratty and Trice idk, when he talked at the end of the recording he sounded nice, but the voice for the book was not my thing. I liked some side characters but I honestly got his old friends confused.

i like cute cartoon covers. i love finding lowkey (and hopefully underappreciated) romance books. i have a soft spot for chicklit.
in short, i had hopes.
they came promptly crashing down.

this was such a disappointment.

the fmc, nandy, is nothing short of INSUFFERABLE. she's spoiled and narrow-minded and downright rude from the moment she meets mmc, tyson trice.
and all because he's got a different upbringing than her.
she has no boundaries. she forces him to talk to her about his trauma because she feels entitled to it, blatantly walks up and kisses scars on his chest??? keep in mind, she barely know him and acted like he was the devil coming to corrupt her spoiled as fuck sweet little christian girl attitude.

i cannot stand her. she actually walks around thinking he's some godless (yes, it comes back to christianity, again) criminal who's going to ruin her entire life. she's 17. what the fuck.
spending the first 120 pages with her was a serious struggle.
then we hit page 120, and all of a sudden, she now feels that he's misunderstood and actually such a good guy and that she's kind of into him (yes, thank you for asking: she does actually have a boyfriend).
AND WHY DOES SHE ASSOCIATE ATHEISM WITH CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR??

A reverse Save the Last Dance? I think the idea is great but I just didn’t seem to connect with the characters. Actually, I connected more with the side characters than anything else. Nandy....well she frustrated me more than anything. I definitely think the story is important and the message got through to me. I just couldn’t connect with the characters. Except Travis lol

I couldn't even finish it. At one point I had to ask myself why am I torturing myself and end the self inflicted torment. The characters' interactions don't make sense and the story itself is full of unnecessary fluff. I kept putting the book down and then forcing myself to come back to it. I've read about 75% and I'd rather watch paint dry than finish this book.

DNF at about 20%. This book just irked me. I was so excited about the premise and I love me a good “enemies to lovers” trope, but everyone and everything was just so unlikeable that I couldn’t find myself wanting to finish.
