The concept overall was intriguing. But I found myself having the same issue I usually have when entire chapters are dedicated to different characters; I didn't care about some of them, so those chapters were a slog. Overall it was fine. That's the best I can do, sorry.

This book is nothing like I've read before. One part family saga, one part Cold War era psychic espionage, one part mobster noir - it's hard to picture all these elements working together, but they do it so well. I loved the diverse characters, the subtle humour, and the multi-plot narrative. The writing is top notch too, and I found myself highlighting particularly clever expressions left, right, and centre. Just read it already, while I'm going to run out and buy a physical copy for myself.

DNF at 55% I just couldn't get into this one. I wanted to enjoy it, but it ended up feeling like just another "dysfunctional family" novel. There wasn't enough psychic activity to make it worth trudging through all the tedious family drama I guess?

This was a fun read and I enjoyed the Chicago references!
