Good - not incredibly notable. I think that this was fun, and I liked the writing, but it isn’t one that is going to stick with me. I also think it is longer than it needs to be; it was a drag trying to finish it.
Graphic: Gun violence, Death of parent
Minor: War
Family dynamics can be hard, but even more so when most of the family has some sort of psychic ability. Then add in the widower father, some drama with the idiotic middle brother and his run ins with the Mob, assorted parent and kid relationships across the generations and a selectively mute youngest brother who has their family home in disarray with crazy home improvement projects and you have the Telemachus family. They really do put the fun in dysfunctional. I really enjoyed this book, I got the audiobook from the library and listened in the car mostly so it took a while. The character depth and the complexity of family relations, great writing, and interesting intertwined stories had me hooked beginning to end. 5/5 stars ⭐️

The writing and characterization was well done I just didn’t care. I loved the premise and everything on paper but there wasn’t enough pushing me through. It was also very much a boys game.
This rip-roaring American family story bounces between the 1960s & 1990s, encompassing shadowy government agencies, psychic abilities, the mob, and mental illness along the way. The balance of humor and pathos, as well as realistic and fantastical, is just about percfect! Reminded me of Michael Chabon's Kavalier & Clay or Jeffrey Eugenides' Middlesex mixed with bits of Salinger's Glass family or Wes Anderson's Tennenbaums.

DNF at about 70%.
This book feels absolutely pointless. The characters we should feel for are annoying, the rest are plain dicks. A bunch of things happen, but nothing feels like it has a meaning. It's quirky for the sake of quirky, nothing leads anywhere, we just have stupid side story after stupid side story. Don't get me wrong, I like stories that have layers, but not when it all just gets tossed in. Spies and Russians and mob and robbing the mob and seeing the future, but also like kids being fucking weird, but internet dating and like saving the wife of a criminal's son who is fucking over his dad but nobody knows shit , TV shows, super powers, but also cons aaand MLM crap.
Everyone is an annoying fuck. Now I know why nobody really talked about the ACTUAL plot, just used big words that mean nothing to describe it. Do not recommend.
