tension from the moment the book starts. add in some perfectly timed flashbacks and this book will have you on the edge of your seat, but don't except a happy ending.

I received an ecopy of this through netgalley; however, all opinions are my own.

I'd give this a 3.4-4, probably closer to 4 stars since I finished it in about 2 days!
I definitely don't feel like it should be considered a psychological thriller, that's my go to genre and this one just didn't have what the others have. I was able to figure out the "twist" if you can call it that abut halfway through the book. Although there was one minor twist that I didn't seem coming but it's because I wasn't following the dates are that listed on Rose Gold's chapters.

Other than the fact that I figure out what was happening I still enjoyed the book. I liked Patty's chapters where she was trying to come off at Concerned Mother, or something similar, and you could tell she was faking these emotions because that's what is expected of a Concerned Mother.

Rose Gold was an annoying character, but really we shouldn't expect too much from here since she was so isolated her entire childhood. It was nice to watch her (sort of) grow as a person while her mom is in prison.

The story of Deedee and Gypsy Rose Blanchard is a disturbing one. Perhaps you say "Mommy Dead and Dearest" or any of the other adaptations of the story of a mother who made her child sick for years, until the child murdered the mother.

Now imagine the child didn't murder the mother, and that they attempt to build a relationship after the mother is released from prison for child abuse, and you have "Darling Rose Gold."

This is a very gripping read because you know just enough of the story to have one set of ideas, and author Stephanie Wrobel uses that knowledge to twist more questions and suspense into the plot.

The end is rushed when you really want to luxuriate in the resolution. My only criticism. I see great things ahead for Wrobel.

This book was a TRIP 🤯

The level of unhinged for both of these characters was immaculate. I was so uncomfortable the entire read and the way everything comes together at the end was just fantastic.

This book is heavily inspired by the Gypsy Rose Blanchard story (I assume) but has an even crazier twist. This was so unsettling, highly recommend!

The TDLR of my review on this is that Rose Gold is obviously ripped off from the real Gypsy Rose. The marketing on this book was completely misleading in not actually noting that it was clearly inspired by the true story and then continued as a fictitious revenge of what ifs. I give the author props for compelling, although rather dry, writing and for adding her own spin. But truly, this was mostly disturbing and every single character was awful.
