Over the years, I've become increasingly picky about this particular paranormal creature and the books written about them. An Enchantment of Ravens did an excellent job navigating the intricacies of things like The Wild Hunt, glamours, and how tricky these creatures really are. I loved the way characters like Rook, Gadfly, and Lark were written.
This book is filled with adventure, gorgeous quotes, beautiful descriptions, and tons of fantastic atmosphere. I really felt as though I was experiencing the different courts as Isobel wandered through them. I could see the summerlands, the autumn trees, and the spring colors. It was magnificent to read!
The romance was just the slightest bit strange to me. While it started out in a very sweet, forbidden love manner, it kind of picked up the pace too quickly for me after that. This is 100% a personal preference. I just enjoy a slow-burn rather than an insta-love feeling. Not that it was quite insta-love either, but it really did move along rapidly after the quarter mark in the book.
The ending, while predictable, was quite fun to read. I honestly hope that in the future, Margaret decides to write a sequel for this one, because I'd love to find out what happens to Isobel and Rook later on in life!

I loved the characters and the world Margaret Rogerson built in this book and would've only loved this story more if there were more books set in the world described. Margaret's prose was cozy and a bit whimsical, like snuggling into a perfectly worn-in sweater. This story was exactly the palate refresher I needed after a little reading slump.
I adored Rook and Isobel and I am glad I started my first experience with Margaret Rogerson's work by reading her debut. I have had Sorcery of Thorns and Vespertine sitting on my shelf and now I know I will likely love them as well.

Unfortunately, this book suffers from insta-love and the "she's not like other girls" trope. Also the age gap is a tad creepy, but at least the male love interest isn't as creepy as a certain sparkly vampire. And the MC has an actual personality.

The fantasy world made sense without over explanation, which I appreciated as fantasy novels are not my go-to.

Very few things that annoyed me, it was kindaaaa insta lovey, I still enjoyed Isobel and Rook so much omfg yes they were adorable, and I personally have an ick for whenever a book goes into the “oooh, time for a make over, let’s get you into pretty dresses, uuuh pretty pretty Barbie princess dress” mode, which this book did do a lot later on. (I just read The Cruel Prince and ACOTAR, at this point I just think it’s a part of YA Fae Court Fantasy, so that’s probably just something I have to work on). Also if you're an adult woman like me who doesn't really enjoy reading about teens getting it on, theres like a page or two you will have to skip, but I'm just being really nitpicky.
BUT AGAIN, Margaret Rogerson has a serious talent for giving beautiful and very detailed descriptions of her worlds and their characters, the banter in her works are perfect for teenage girls, the female gaze in these books are chefs kiss 🤌
I’m gonna read Sorcery Of Thorns later this year, I cannot wait✨
