smerkel08's review against another edition
This is written as if the reader is an idiot. Simple, declarative sentences. Also, he tries to modernize the content by discussing modern technology, social media, etc, but it sounds like if my grandparent tried to use modern slang such as "haters."
Graphic: Suicide

Gosh! Not only was this book incredibly frustrating, but it was also a huge struggle to actually finish. It took me almost all of February to read the first 250 6 mind the rest, and for a long time, it was on the DNF pile. But I just can't DNF a book!
I read this after The Family Experiment, and whilst the concept was interesting, with a lot of potential, the execution was pretty terrible. I struggled to understand what the key story was in all of this. There's 5 different POV. 5 people with different secrets, agendas, and lives. Almost all chapters end on a type of cliffhanger and then you have to wait 4-5 more chapters to be told, actually youll have to wait for the answers to this but here's another to keep you guessing. This was annoying and made it really hard to follow subplots as well as the actual main plot. Also, the brainwashing rules and government enforcement of The Marriage Act quite literally gave me the rage.
Every single character is beyond awful and a bunch of psychopaths if you ask me, except Arthur. All 3.5 stars are for him alone! I do not appreciate what happened to him at all.

Comprised of four stories that revolve around dystopia “smart” marriages. My favorite part was the outstanding audio voices. Was easy to distinguish the characters and were expressed well.. Since I enjoyed “The One” very much so was hoping to enjoy this book as well. The book’s theme appears to underscore how foundational the elements of humanity, civil liberties and love are in marriage and society. I did not care for this book’s characters. I found all four stories (Anthony, Corinne, Roxie, and Jeffrey) very dark throughout. Took much effort to finish listening to the audiobook.

3.5 stars. I liked the way this book took an angle on technology and made you think about it.
