This book didn’t completely work for me, it was cute but the Mc both were very exasperating, I understand both had their issues but it was a little too much for me, how insecure they were, because even though they were supposed to be so different, with one being a people’s pleaser and the other one having trust issues, they read quite similar. I am a little tired of reading about these women being so attracted to each other but pushing away *because reasons*.
And the fact that Pepper mom’s was this so terrible wad too much, it was just so obvious to justify the trauma and for them to meet.

Pepper and Opal are adorable and I loved the competition element.

after thinking about it more i think i know why this one wasn't for me.

The sapphic relationship was written as if seen through a male gaze idk how to say it in a better way but it didn't feel sapphic at all. It was like a heterosexual relationship??? idk very uncomfortable with that.
And I also had issues with the neurodivergent representation..... ADHD was a bit equal to "being a storm" and the sensory issues of Pepper were only explained on a surface level (for example why didn't she have sensory issues while having sex with Opal? keeping in mind its her first time EVER ???? how could it be so good and earth shattering ????? im so confused).
Also I personally hate the friends with benefits trope when both characters are denying their feelings. It annoys me because it perpetrates the stereotypes of friends with benefits not working. Also, I think it doesn't represent a healthy way to deal with emotions.
This book was just not for me.

Sparkling prose and a vibrant cast elevate a conventional plot into a paragon of the form.
