A classic murder mystery. This is my first time reading Agatha Christie and getting to meet Hercule Poirot, so I’m sure there are callbacks and points that were lost on me, but it was a fun venture into this world! A fun who-dunnit murder mystery that was playing on my head similar to Knives Out. I kept trying to figure out the mystery myself but was of course continuously outsmarted by Christie. For so much of it I had convinced myself even that
Ariadne
was the murderer! It was great watching the pieces fall into place and seeing it all play out. Not like the usual books I read but enjoyable nevertheless!

A strange one. Beginning moved quite quickly as I was trying to sort out everyone and how they fit together. But the resolution was unsatisfying. And it was odd that a book where two children were murdered was sort of antiseptic about the whole thing. Not to mention quite a lot of victim blaming, Agatha. My least favorite of the ACs I’ve read so far.
But Dame wrote a pile of books. They can’t all be all stars. I’ll see her again soon.
Looking forward to the movie.

Not my favorite Christie, but not my least favorite either. As is typical with her Poirot novels, for better or worse, it all comes together in the final reveal at the end of the story, and then the book just ends abruptly. If you’re new to Poirot, I would definitely not recommend starting with this one, as I don’t think it shows off his true genius like in other stories. But because she’s still Agatha Christie, she still got me and I guessed the wrong killer all along.
