I liked it, I did. It just didn’t blow me away. I had fun, but the plot twist wasn’t one of Christie’s best. This is not to say I didn’t enjoy it. I don’t regret reading it, it was perfect to read on Halloween night! Just overall could have been a better mystery. But also, it had Hercule Poirot, so there’s no way it’s getting anything less than 3 stars.

did i solve the murder before hercule poirot? yes, yes i did (okay, i had the broad strokes -- i was correct about the murderer and reasoning, but i missed that last twist)
This is my first Agatha Christie read and I had high hopes for it. It has a very interesting plot with the murder of a young girl at a Halloween party who claims she witnessed a murder herself. Poirot has a lot of people to talk to who were at the party and the middle of the book does get a little tedious with repetitive conversations and the same questions being asked with the same answers. However it all wraps up nicely at the end with an unexpected reveal.

I like the mystery details. However, pretty much every character goes on a rant about how much worse society has gotten. Very boring & cliche (wo)man yelling at sky. Really takes away from the plot.
I really enjoyed this book. Of course I enjoy most Poirot mysteries. This one was a bit different as it wasn’t told from Hastings POV. You can definitely tell it’s one of Christie’s later writings. A good fun mystery. Kept me guessing until the very end.
Never below a 3 for Agatha…maybe a 3.5 for this one actually. I always love Hercule Poirot, but I found myself getting annoyed with how repetitive the stories became in this one with each character’s retelling of the events. The backstory was complicated, and made the reveal great, but I could’ve done without a few interviews where 95% was not new information. Still, a good addition to my Halloween books for the season.
Thankfully I had been warned before going in. But the thread through the book about violent children and how to deal with them has aged like milk.
