I picked this up because I wanted to watch its movie adaptation that came out recently (A Haunting in Venice), but it was very mid, not the best of her books at all so I’m quite confused why they decided to turn this one into a movie when she has so many better options in her catalog.

I’ve never been more frustrated by a litany of unnecessary monologues and odd details. Usually, I love listening to Poirot mysteries via audiobooks, but the narration was grating after several hours. I was often confused, frequently bored, and a little disturbed at the way the characters discussed children and young women. Not an Agatha Christie title I would ever recommend.

Enjoyed the author writing a version of herself in Ariadne Oliver. This one was lopsided on the speculation - LOTS of discussion about mentally disturbed people and sexual assault, more so than in most Poirot stories I’ve read. Aside from that, it was as engaging and interesting as the others.

My first Hercule Poirot mystery and how charming this was. The style of writing take some getting used to but the story was interesting. A Halloween party with a murder , so much atmosphere in this one. Want a book to fully immerse you in all the Fall moods , this is it.
