I had a hard time getting through this one. I loved the setting, as a lover of the original, but I felt my interest wane on and off throughout the story. The foreshadowing was a bit heavy handed. John Grisham is such a great writer overall though, just not my favorite from him

DID NOT FINISH: 35%

Tedioso e interminable.

It was a good easy read...nothing earth shattering

This is a John Grisham legal thriller, so I expect (and in some respects welcome) a certain amount of stock characters and lazy morality.

What I demand from Grisham is that he plot his novels well, and he slacked off here. The book is slow moving. Too much of the plot outline was lifted from A Time To Kill. The climax was spotted a mile off. The concept was good, but he got lazy.

Could see the twist approaching from yonder. Book has emotional weight and humor but it is the weakest entry in the Brigance series

I loved how all of the pieces fell together in the end like a good puzzle. Reading a Grisham book really puts you in the setting. I loved it.

A good story, but a little slow in the middle.

I'm glad Mr. Grisham is back in Ford County. I anticipated a longer time jump that would bring Jake Brigance into contemporary times. I hope this means that we'll see more Brigance novels as Ford County is still in the late 1980's. Love Harry Rex, Lucien, Jake, and the town of Clanton.

John Grisham just does it for me. He doesn’t waste time being verbose or filling pages with flowery language. He’s here to tell a story, a really good one, and he tells it. Without being annoying he fills out his characters well, and lets you form your own opinion about them. This will probably be the best thing I read in 2021 and I’m so sad it’s over.
