Hadn't read a Grisham in a while but damn he's a good writer. Started a bit slow but stuck the landing.

I liked the ending of this book, which is the reason I gave it 3 stars. Had it been half as long, it would have been a much more interesting read.

Grisham went into long, boring chapters about things that really didn't even matter. Take for instance, Jake and his wife being offered a house. It was set up like there was some nefarious plan behind it being offered to them during this trial. We see Jake talk to the judge about it and the judge warns him not to make such a big purchase during the trial. Jake and his wife go over for dinner with the owner and have multiple conversations about it. But, no, there was no nefarious plan. They were just getting a new house….50 pages down.

All in all, a disappointing sequel to A Time To Kill.

It was a bit of a slow start for me, but I'm glad I persevered. The story picked up after a bit, and by the end had me hooked. Loved the characters and the plot.

Kind of a sequel to, "A Time to Kill", with only a few minor allusions to the story. Nevertheless, this can still be read apart from not having read, "A Time to Kill". This is a similar story in that a white lawyer more or less defends an unpopular black defendant, guilty of seducing a wealthy white man with a golden inheritance. It ends well of course, but with a lovely twist at the end. This is one of Grisham's longer novels and it seems a bit drawn out at times. Nevertheless, this is one of his best works.

John Grisham just does it for me. He doesn’t waste time being verbose or filling pages with flowery language. He’s here to tell a story, a really good one, and he tells it. Without being annoying he fills out his characters well, and lets you form your own opinion about them. This will probably be the best thing I read in 2021 and I’m so sad it’s over.

A perfectly suitable, entertaining vacation book.

Wow!! The best book to come from Grisham in years. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. Read it!!

Good page turner for the beach, but Grisham debases women characters to not much more than pretty things to look at.

Difficult storyline but Grisham is a master storyteller and this much delayed follow-up was well worth the wait.
