Jake returns, finally. It's no "A Time to Kill," but it was a page-turner, for sure!

Defintly not the best book I have read by John Grisham, but also not the worst. Although I don't think I have ever read a bad book by him either. It was just slow and plodding and all of the action took place in the last few chapters. None of the characters really seemed likable here either, except maybe for Harry Rex.

Considering I love reading John Grisham's books, I guess 1 so so book out of 20 isnt so bad.

I haven't read a John Grisham legal thriller in years, I'd forgotten how much I used to enjoy them. This story was not as fast paced or filled with as much excitement as the others I've read. Sycamore Row continues Jake Brigance's story a few years after A Time to Kill. If you're interested in the tedium of legal processes, this book definitely delivered. There were several things left without resolution and the book was probably at least 100 pages too long, but despite it's flaws, I still enjoy a Grisham novel.

I really liked this book. It isn't packed with action. It's packed with human drama. It's what I enjoy about Grisham.

John Grisham truly is the master of legal thrillers.

I won this book through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. It took me some time to really get into this book since I haven't read anything by him in awhile, but I ultimately loved it. Seth Hubbard has had a recent run with cancer and isn't going to leave much longer. He hangs himself and leaves a hand written will which leaves most of his money to his black housekeeper and leaves out his immediate family. A battle ensues over the validity of the handwritten will and whether Seth was in his right mind when he made it. Throughout the book we see the struggles of many different characters and towards the end we learn the motives towards Seth's thinking. I would highly recommend this book. The pace is slow at first, but towards the end it is hard to put down!

Only John Grisham could make a story about a contest over a will as interesting as this. It helps that I enjoyed the previous story, A Time to Kill so much that I remembered all of the characters who reappear in this one (though I was hoping for a cameo by Carl Lee Hailey). This was the perfect audiobook for a long road trip over the holiday weekend!
