Just My Luck by Lena Hendrix is the first book by this author and it was amazing!
This story follows Abel and Sloane; its a grumpy / sunshine story, Abel has a troubled past and he wants to keep Sloane at arms length so she doesnt get wrapped up in his bad past. What Abel doesnt expect is to fall in love with Sloane and kids so easily. He took their marriage of convenience seriously from the jump and truly enjoyed having his new wife and kids around all the time. They went into this marriage so they could help each other out of sticky situations; Sloane could help Abel who she secretly has a crush on, she wanted to help Abel get out from under his dad. What she didnt realize is how deep his dads hold was and what he was willing to do to keep hold of his kids. And marrying Abel would make it so she could get her inheritance before the forced age requirement.
Abel is SWOONY, loving, fierce, protective to a T and possessive when it comes to his new found family. And man was he good in the bedrom ! I LOVED all the "my wife" from Abel.
Sloane is a single mom with young kids who recently moved to a new town to get away from her POS ex-husband. Before Abel, Sloane was struggling finanacially because she uprooted her life to escape the POS ex. In her new town, the best part of her work day is messing with her grumpy boss. She loves finding new ways to get him flustered any chance she can and quickly their conversations go from one sided (Sloane's) to flirty banter.
As the story unfolds, we get to see the real quick to Abel and not just his past but the protectiveness of Sloane and her kids. He realized quickly her ex wasnt going down without a fight and unfortunately Abel learns his past could cause issue for Sloane. No matter how much he loves her and the kids he was willing to remove himself if it meant no other issues were going to come to Sloane and the kids.

Poor Abel. He had know idea what he was getting himself into when he did Sylvie a favor by hiring Sloane. I mean she is a great employee, but she also made it her mission to bring some fun into his life…whether he wants it or not. 😂
He is used to the town looking down on him because of his past & has kept himself distanced from everyone, even his family, because of that. All he wants to do is keep running the brewery he always dreamed of & not be under his dad’s thumb anymore…anything else is just a bonus.
Sloane is hilarious. She has such a unique ability to find the good in everything despite all the stuff that’s been thrown her way & she doesn’t take herself too seriously which is perfect for a certain grumpy recluse, if I do say so myself.
Their story unfolds so naturally and you can just tell that they were always meant to be together. The way he is so protective of her kids is 😍 that’s the Daddy Abel we can all fall in love with. We finally see some of the lengths Mr. King is willing to go to in order to get what he wants. 😳 I absolutely love all the people we encounter in Outtatowner! Each new person is absolutely so unique! I am loving this series & Lena’s writing so much.
3⬆️⭐️
- Sloane: protagonista femenina
- Abel: protagonista masculino

Dramarama
Hello, I'm formally submitting my application to be Abel King's wife.
What a rollercoaster of a story this is! Abel's growth from being the town recluse to becoming a family man is just so heartwarming to witness.
Sloane is so fun and quirky that they make such a complementary pairing with the opposites attract trope working so well!
Both have tragic pasts but I feel that Sloane's wasn't explored that much as Abel's. I also wished that her narrative voice was as quirky as her actions are at times cause the two sometimes feel like they're from two different characters.
Other than that this is a superb romance read that brings in the dramaaaa.
The family mystery and the King siblings' growing relationship is so nice to see, as well as the little friendship moments they have with the Sullivans.
You definitely need to read the first series and the first book of this one to get fully invested in what's happening in this book.
Still a highly recommend read!

I had a hard time getting through this book. There were multiple points where I lost interest and stopped reading halfway through a chapter. By the time I reached the last chapter, I was just skimming. The pacing, storytelling, or overall engagement just wasn’t there for me. It might work for others, but it didn’t hold my attention

The way this book was written I genuinely felt that I had read it before… the Zon recommended it based off other books I’ve read and you know it wasn’t wrong, but because so many of the tropes felt similar to other books I really skim read this.
