The most well-formed story of the series so far, it has the standard hero-who-doesn't-know-it, the irrational bad guy, the ever-faithful companions, and so on. It's a good story, well-paced, and the characters are a bit more likeable than the previous books.

The first time I tried to read this book I lost interest and eventually gave up albeit we are talking many years ago. I must admit that it is a very slow starter but once you get so far In it really does draw you in. There is a lot less magic in this book than in its predecessors as this book is about events and people who are native to Narnia in the timeline of the Pevensie’s rule as Kings and Queens. Definitely not what I expected from a Narnia tale but it is an underrated story it has to be said.
