The first time I tried to read this book I lost interest and eventually gave up albeit we are talking many years ago. I must admit that it is a very slow starter but once you get so far In it really does draw you in. There is a lot less magic in this book than in its predecessors as this book is about events and people who are native to Narnia in the timeline of the Pevensie’s rule as Kings and Queens. Definitely not what I expected from a Narnia tale but it is an underrated story it has to be said.

Easy read of the Narnia world. Not my favourite narnia book but enjoyed listening.
The odd duck of the series, in a good way. Criticized for being xenophobic, even racist. There’s certainly an element of otherness equating to wrongness, yet the novel often overcomes these pitfalls in the name of universal love. Lewis writes with the best of intentions.

The chronicles of narnia all follow a similar pattern so the long expedition starts to get a little boring and overall it’s predictable. This one felt a little racist what with the fair-haired people being all civilized and the darker skinned, more Arabic sounding people were savage and immoral. Overall the ending was a nice twist and had some sense of humor.
