So so good, such a disturbing plot that you are immediately hooked and can’t stop reading. Can’t wait to read the rest in the series

Trigger warning: EVERYTHING. Seriously if you're in any way sensitive, don't read this book
Sooo, my semester starts soon and this was on one of my seminar's reading list (Introduction to Crime Fiction) and uhm - wow. I'd never read a Karin Slaughter book before and I was not prepared.
First things first: I enjoy reading crime novels or true crime non-fiction, but I don't think reading this book should be mandatory. Ever. Reading this (which made me gag one time, like physically gag: I thought I was going to be sick) should always be a choice.
What I liked:
-this book did not pull its punches. I was on the edge of my seat and I could not stand not knowing what had happened.
-damn wow that plot though.
-all the aspects of each crime, though revolting, were also very interesting. I've never quite read a book like this and I'm impressed
What I didn't like:
-am I the only one who thought the resolution was a bit weak? Like sure, it made sense, but it wasn't reaaaally what I was expecting and I was a bit disappointed.
-the characters: I loved them, but each of them were like a chord played on the piano with one note played wrong but you can't put your finger on it. They just felt a tiiiiny bit weak. They didn't feel like real people to me.
I still loved this book even though - wow. WOW. Wow.

Karin Slaughter has a distinct style, even from this first grant county book, and I would mainly describe it as graphic. There’s a dead body within the first three pages and it doesn’t slow down from there. Entertaining and suspenseful the whole way through. Fair warning: some tough to read stuff happens to the main characters.
Hele grote trigger warning rape voor dit boek!!
Maar verder is het boek en enorm spannend geschreven, de karakters voelen echt aan en de opbouw is sterk.

I've been on a thriller/suspense book kick lately, and I am really digging Karin Slaughter's books. This book is the first of a series about a coroner/pediatrician in Georgia.
Great characters, interesting plots, good suspense, and enough gritty police work and shocking crime to make it intriguing.

Kept my interest but way too graphic in my option. Good story line but this book features many rape scenes that make me uncomfortable.
It's been a while since I've read a good mystery like this. It was hard to put down & kept me up way past my bedtime. The characters are good Southern folk without being too stereotypical or clichéd. I'll definitely be reading the rest of this series & check out the rest of Karin Slaughter's books.
