Kept my interest but way too graphic in my option. Good story line but this book features many rape scenes that make me uncomfortable.

It's been a while since I've read a good mystery like this. It was hard to put down & kept me up way past my bedtime. The characters are good Southern folk without being too stereotypical or clichéd. I'll definitely be reading the rest of this series & check out the rest of Karin Slaughter's books.

Eh. Maybe I'm to nitpicky with my thrillers. I almost sent this to my DNF pile multiple times up to the 70% mark. I enjoyed the actual serial killer/murder parts but there was so much other fluff. The continuous soap opera dramatics between Jeffery and Sara were at times cringy. I love you. No, I hate you. You make me horny while sitting and church as well as examining a girl that just blew her head off, now get a way from me. Is Sara a coroner? Or is she a medical examiner? Lena's character pissed me off for most of the story. And really, would they let someone who's sister was just murdered work on that exact case? Her gun was taken away by a victim who used it to kill herself in front of her after asking her if she "liked" the rape. She was told to "take a few days off". Like no investigation into how that happened? She wasn't taken off the case? The last 30% was really exciting and what I had been hoping for, but that payoff wasn't worth the rest. I will not be visiting Grant County again, but will still read Karin Slaughters stand alones.
