This was Slaughter's first Sara Linton book. We are introduced to her failed marriage, her past, her family, her vulnerability. Sara resides in a sleepy town, works as a small town physician, has a hunky ex-husband who is the small town sheriff, yada yada yada. Suddenly, all hell breaks loose. Local women are brutally abused and die shortly thereafter. The murders are graphic and horrendous. Weak stomachs beware. I thought parts could have been developed deeper. Yet I assume in the later novels these points are explored. I will be reading Kiss Cut next. So we shall see.

Really, really good. Only a 4 instead of 5 because it didn't blow me away, but it was great to see the beginning of Sara and Jeffrey. Really sets the tone for the rest of the series.
Still 4 stars, but looking forward to rereading the series from the beginning. i really appreciated the author's intro to this new edition.

I'm just starting to get into reading mystery thrillers and I really enjoyed this story. The characters were interesting and the plot kept me invested in the story. I enjoyed Karin Slaughter's writing and I do think she was a good place to start when being new to the genre. I borrowed this on audiobook from my library and I do think that helped me to consume the story as I am usually a fantasy Sci-fi reader. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
I little dark for my taste. Specifically a very gruesome act that made me almost dnf this book. But I stuck it out to find out what happened in the end. I just can’t get past a certain very detailed horrific act, to enjoy and say that I loved it. Definitely suspenseful and kept my interest peeked. But some descriptions were a little too dark and graphic in my opinion.
