Prvi susret s ovom autoricom ali sigurno ne i zadnji. Vrlo dobro, zanimljivo, jezivo onda kada treba (pogodila sam tko je "bad guy" jeeeej!), meni dovoljno za omiljeni žanr.

It’s safe to say that I am obsessed with Karin Slaughter. This book in particular excited me because I see so much potential for character growth in our three narrators (especially Lena lol).

I'm still trying to process all I've just read. This has to be the most graphic thing I've ever read and yet, I couldn't look away from it. Bruh, this was wild.

I’ve mentioned it in past reviews, but I typically stay away from books that cast police officers or detectives as its protagonists. I’ve read other books from Karin Slaughter, though, and I really liked them, so I thought I would try out this one—cops and all. I liked what I read.

I think one of the reasons I enjoyed this so much is because it’s definitely not one of those “there’s only one man for the job” kind of stories. I really like that the main character is a woman who doesn’t like to put up with her ex’s crap. I’ll be honest—in the midst of all the disturbing events of the book, I still kept thinking about how I would like Sara and Jeff to get back together. That being said, I entirely understand how she would react after that kind of betrayal. Learning about her past, pre-being Jeff’s wife, was particularly tragic and gut-wrenching when contrasted with Jeff’s actions.

As for the crimes and subsequent investigation, I can confidently say that this was one of the most graphically violent books I have read (I don’t tend to read books with a lot of that kind of detail). The autopsy scenes are extremely disturbing and made me uncomfortable—this book is certainly not for the faint of heart. Let’s not even get started on the torture described to a certain other victim.

I really appreciated that the author tied in critical events from Sara’s life with the case that Jeff was investigating. I liked that they were brought together—even through terrible circumstances—and were able to take a step toward a possible (one day?) reconciliation. The tension between these characters definitely added more depth to the plot and hiked up the stakes!

The only problem I have with this novel lies with the discovery of the first victim. I had a hard time believing that so much could have happened to victim #1 in a public place without anyone hearing anything. All that was done to the woman would certainly have elicited attention from someone—regardless of whether the place was busy or not.

Ultimately, I think this is an excellent novel, but it needs to be read with caution because it’s quite graphic for the average person. The story, however, is something that any “SVU” would find compelling. So, if you’re willing to deal with some gruesome descriptions, I think you should give this book a shot.

I mixed this book up with another one and the graphic details of the rape just about made me sick. I soldiered on because I liked the heroine but she turned out to be an idiot in personal life - now that I think about it, the whole force was stupid because they missed the obvious suspect under their nose - and I just don't want to read any further about these people, so that's the end of my foray into the Grant County series.
