Didn't think I'd like a book where I knew the plot already but he did a good job keeping it engaging.

This book, sadly, is not as good as the other books in the series have been. About 80% of the book was a complete rehash of book 3 from another character's perspective, and although we do learn a little more about the "werewolves" of Roanoke, it isn't much. Really, the story is all about how Zoe convinced the Consu to give her the technology she came back with in book 3... But this could have been achieved in a novella.

This book isn't bad at all; it just isn't as good as the ones who came before.

An interesting parallel novel to The Lost Colony. Although technically a sequel, this takes place in the same timeline as the previous book, from the point of view of a different character. Scalzi manages to tell the same story in a completely different way. An enjoyable, albeit light, read.

Honestly I had not expected to enjoy this one as much as i ended up enjoying it. It was basically a retelling of the previous book in the series just from the point of view of a different character (one associated with the main characters of the previous book). A good solid read if you're a fan of the OLD MAN'S WAR series.

This is basically a retelling of [b:The Last Colony|88071|The Last Colony (Old Man's War, #3)|John Scalzi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1437660786l/88071._SY75_.jpg|18279847], but from Zoe's point of view. You get an emotional telling of what Zoe has been going through; with the death of her real father, being with John and Jane; having Obin protection and making grown up decisions to save those she loves. She's feisty.

You do not have to read this book to continue with the series. It just gives it more nuance. Just like [b:The Sagan Diary|61664|The Sagan Diary (Old Man's War, #2.5)|John Scalzi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1388321306l/61664._SX50_.jpg|15558795] gave us an emotional love letter from Jane to John. It didn't add anything, but it didn't take anything away, either.
