I really enjoyed this book. Despite the fact that it detailed events already covered in previous books in the series, I still got anxious and excited in anticipation as things unfolded. John Scalzi did a fantastic job of getting inside the head of a teenage girl too. A lot of male authors, in my opinion, just don't quite manage to make it work when they write a young female protagonist, but in this case, I was pleasantly surprised. I also love that you could probably read this as a stand-alone and still get it and enjoy it.

This was just the type of book I needed right: short, simple, and reasonably interesting without making me think too much.
Zoe's Tale takes a step back and essentially retells the story from The Last Colony from the perspective of Zoe. I was a little disappointed by this as I had hoped that Scalzi would continue the story, but I did find the gimmick interesting and it did give Scalzi the chance to clean up some loose ends he left hanging about after the last book.
While the over all plot is the same in this book as the last, the real story here is Zoe's growing into a moral and conscientious adult and finally forcing the universe to take her for who she is as opposed to what she is. Taken from this perspective the book is a relative success. I was also pleased at how convincing Scalzi managed to make the reader feel like the story was actually being told by Zoe.
Despite these pluses, the book is still mediocre. I enjoyed it but it is unlikely to be one I'll read again.
I recommend it to all fans of the Old Man's War series.

Zoe´s tale describes events from the Last colony (third book of series) from view of Zoe daughter of main character. Author genially uses the reader knowledge of story and give events from Last colony another perspective.

A good reminder of the world of Old Mans War, but as it’s a retelling of the previous book from a different POV, it’s nothing new
Zoe’s tale recount the story from the Last Colony from the point of view of Zoe, Major Perry adopted daughter. Has other reviewers also mentioned, this book has a strong YA vibe to it.
Overall, it is interesting to get the story of what happened on the colony of Roanoke and gives closure to that story of the Last Colony. As always, Scalzi prose is interesting and easy to follow. Due to the subject matter, we are served with teenage angst and questioning, but it is warranted by POV character.
It is commendable that the character of Zoe was not written in an overpowered fashion or with special insight. It is her circumstances that project her into the political arena and a good part of the book deals with her coming to term with this.
Overall, a book that could be seen has YA, but a good addition to the Old Man’s War serie.
