So for those of you who have not read a Stephanie Plum book before, here is the basic run-down: Stephanie is a Jersey-girl who lost her job as a lingere saleswoman and took up a job as a bounty hunter from her cousin Vinnie to make ends meet. She is a bit incompetent when it comes to the finer art of bounty hunting, but she’s got great instincts and a lot of luck and manages to come out on top most of the time. The books are part raw humor and part mystery, and with an eclectic set of characters and a heap of sexual tension between the boy-next-door Joe Morelli and the sexy man-of-mystery Ranger.
In this installment, Lula has witnessed a murder, and for once, the crazy vengeful killers are after her and not Stephanie. Ranger has been experiencing business troubles and asks Stephanie to take up a job at Rangeman to help him investigate. Stephanie and Joe have taken a break, and the Plums are on the lookout for new men for Stephanie. Added to the mix are a new cross-dressing chicken, an epic barbecuing competition, and the reappearing of Stephanie’s arch nemesis, Joyce Barnhardt. Together, these elements lead to a fast-paced, action-packed installment.
Despite how fast-paced it becomes, however, I found this book rather slow to start. While I shamelessly laughed in public at several points during my read, Evanovich relied a lot more on potty humor than I felt comfortable with (how many fart jokes can you really cram in a 300 page book for adults?). I hadn’t picked up a Stephanie Plum book in half a year, and it made me a bit ambivalent around reading the next book in the series, with how immature the writing was in Finger Lickin’ Fifteen. That being said, I did laugh quite a bit, and Stephanie will always be one of my favorite heroines. This book was definitely not as good as the others in the series, however.

Laugh-out-loud funny in places. Classic Stephanie Plum.
A fun page turner. This series is turning out to be a predictable formula. Why has it taken me this long to figure out that she will never decide between Ranger and Moreli? GO Team Ranger!
The antics just keep getting crazier. Grandma Mazur and Lula team up to enter a BBQ contest to catch a murderer. These books never disappoint for some outloud laughs. Silly but very fun.
