A fast, easy read but I’m not sure I ‘got’ it. Is this satire? Is it supposed to be funny? I’m not sure.

First of this year's Booker longlist and I hope they're all as good as this.
Echoes of Amis and Houllebeq haunt this analysis of post covid, post Brexit Britain which is deceptively simply written.
I can't say it left me hopeful for the future though.

Mid.

Doesn’t live up to its premise. Too on the nose.

I don’t have that much to say tbh.

Very frustrating to read. It is not just the characters are cynical, but the author seems to be quite disillusioned by identity politics and journalism overall. Perhaps more detailed characterization, rather than just presenting their grievances, would give the commentary more substance.
