I’m keeping this pretty vague to avoid any spoilers!

The synopsis of this gives the impression that the majority of the plot consists of two women trapped in an elevator. In reality, we don’t spend very much time in the elevator at all, and most of the story takes place in the aftermath of the elevator incident. So, my impression that this was a sort of ‘confined space’ thriller was incorrect. I’d say this reads more like a procedural/mystery than a thriller.

Regardless, I had a good time reading this. I liked the protagonist, and found myself both sympathetic and distrustful of her. I was very unsure about what level of involvement she had in the elevator death, and this uncertainty drives the mystery forward.

I liked the sort of corporate/legal thriller aspects of this. Several characters are lawyers, so we get to see them putting their skills to use. There were a few times where the use of legal jargon muddled the story, because I didn’t understand it and therefore didn’t know what was going on. Despite this causing the story to drag a bit at times, I still read this in just a few days, because I found myself unable to stop!

I recommend this for those who enjoy capable female characters, calculated maneuverings, and revenge elements!

This is a well crafted legal thriller. When Shay Lambert and Lucy Carter-Jones both get on an elevator at their firm, CDMI (fashion conglomerate Claudine de Martineau International), only one gets off alive. Was it suicide or murder? Why would Lucy, HR Mgr kill herself? What is happening at CDMI? Shay Lambert is accused of murdering Lucy, but she swears she is innocent.
When Shay goes to work for an adversary of Barrett, CDMI lead counsel, she is hired because she knows something. But Shay refuses to tell, due to the NDA she signed. Will she hold to this, or will she cave?
I felt the tension of this novel the whole time I was reading it, never knowing who was the cat or the mouse in this game of manipulation.
