So this book was a nice revenge and badass-heroin story, a »feel-good« thriller if you will. But the problem for me was that the ottrocities done by the perpetrators were far more realistic than the sudden turn-around in the heroine's circumstances and the happy ending, which makes the whole execution of the concept a bit flat in my opinion. If not for that, the book would have been a 3-star read.

A taut legal thriller reminiscent of John Grisham in his prime! The story opens with two women trapped in an elevator and only one comes out alive. What follows is an edge of your seat mystery alternating between the events leading up to the death and the immediate aftermath as attorney Shay tries to defend herself, arguing that the death was a suicide and not murder. This was fast-paced and hard to put down - everything I want in a psychological thriller. Great on audio and highly recommended. I hadn't read anything by this author before but will definitely keep an eye out for her next book!

Lucy and Shay are both working overtime on a Sunday. Lucy is the company's human resource director for a fashion empire, and Shay is one of the companies lawyers. Both tired and Overworked. Lucy is impeccably dressed, and Shay is a mess. They both leave simultaneously on the elevator and get trapped in the elevator together as it gets stuck between floors.
Shay gets off the elevator in shock, and Lucy is dead.
The company is scrambling to hide details about Lucy and Shays, trying to hide her issues from the police. The chapters are told from several points of view, past and present. There’s a lot more to these women as the pages turn. The book is fast-paced and brilliantly written. I loved it

I’m pretty thrown off on the Goodreads reviews, they’re wrong. I don’t think half the people who post on there read the books, and IMO that makes you an asshole. So don’t let the deter you from picking up this book. It’s excellent

3.5 stars. A good thriller that had me very intruiged to learn what happened and all that. But I wasn't a huge fan of the ending. As I felt it had one of those "shock value" endings.

I don't know quite what I was expecting when I read the premise of this book but this wasn't it.

What I enjoyed:
The plot was interesting enough to keep going and make it to the end. I enjoyed the writing style and didn't feel like there were any major flaws with the characters that would make me dislike them.

What I disliked:
I felt like the timeline was all over the place, especially at the beginning. I had a hard time keeping up with the characters and their motivations. What I thought would be more of a "whodunit" driven plot ended up being very legal. And while the story did eventually come together, it just took A LOT OF STORY to get there, with half of it being legalese that I hardly understood.

Conclusion:
Interesting book, so many moving parts, too much legal talk.

I went back-and-forth on my review. I've been giving out a lot of 4-star reviews lately and considered docking the book for that reason since it's very borderline. But the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. Bonnie Kistler takes a big swing and even though it's more of a double than a home run, it's well-written for this kind of thriller and I liked the ending.

I was excited by the premise. The main character Shay is extremely unlikeable. She treats everyone like their idiots and she is the only one that understands legal ethics. The writer tried too hard to make her a hero. I found myself rooting for the “bad guys”. Just skip this one.

Can we please get more office thrillers? What a delight. This was a hard concept to undertake and I really enjoyed it. While it might seem like a locked room mystery, it actually is more about the fallout of the elevator ride and becomes a bit of a legal thriller with a good mystery. Shay was determined, calculating and smart - she made a perfect MC. I’m excited for Kistler’s next book, Her, Too, coming out next year.
