Definitely lots of triggers (which it makes in the beginning) and I had a hard time with some of them because I had been through similar or the same, but overall the book was so good and I loved how H.D. Carlton represented those things so well

I enjoyed this book though I definitely should’ve read the warnings first. I knew it was dark but the smut was even darker! The mystery in this was amazing! Kept me wanting to read more. I think the romance was a little toxic but I was down for it anyway. (Some of the things he said / did would be unforgivable in my book.)
Happy ending for the MC! It was looking bleak but that made it worth it!

Well H.D. Carlton has done it again and written a fantastic novel. I know most people find her stories to be strange and very disturbing but I like that her novels all show that everyone of her characters is slightly broken and how they fix themselves.

It felt like a little bit of a murder mystery in some places and it was definitely a psychological thriller in the majority but the characters and ending was spectacular.

Read this if you have strong stomach and want a little bit of horror/thriller and also mystery but otherwise keep away from this book!

The start was really good, I was hooked on it and couldn't put it down. I loved their relationship at first and was interested but as time went on all they did was bicker and fight, it started to bored me. Now don't get me wrong the plot was amazing, very creative,  but I just feel like it didn't live up to its potential.

Wow. This book was everything. Sawyer and Enzo are perfectly imperfect for each other, and their stories and backgrounds were both equally heart-wrenching. Their time together in the lighthouse was trying, yet in the end brought them closer than anything else could’ve. I could’ve easily read another 300 pages! The spice was 5/5 🌶️ for sure, with an alpha MMC that you love to hate. I couldn’t get enough!

I really wanted to enjoy this as I enjoyed the Haunting of Adeline duology by the same author but I just couldn’t. I didn’t like Sawyer or Enzo and despite me being intrigued by the “ghost in chains” storyline, everything else was just bad.

The spicy scenes were not hot. At all. Why does he keep hooking his fingers over her bottom teeth and dragging her about like that?!?! Why does he “grab her jowls”??? JOWLS! So unflattering 😂 This book also romanticises abusive behaviour and sexual assault.
The sex scene on the boat with the sharks was rape. Literally rape. And  I know he apologises for it eventually, but they don’t call it like it is. Plus she continues to be attracted to him before he apologises and acknowledges it was wrong.
I appreciate there were trigger warnings, but I didn’t enjoy the romanticising of Enzo’s behaviour.

The ghost storyline reveal was what I thought, but the details were horrific. I think HD Carlton is excellent at writing horror/thrillers. I genuinely felt the tension and fear at moments. I genuinely believe that if this were just a thriller and not an erotic romance I would have enjoyed the book so much better!!

Not as good as haunting Adeline but still had dark romantic thriller vibes. We’re living for that! Overall good, I hated that they lost to a man with one leg more so winning to him but we’ll in the end….

I was really disappointed by this book. I heard so many good things about it from booktok. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to “yuck” somebody’s “yum”, but it just wasn’t very good. It seems like Sawyer and Enzo were kind of forced together at first. There’s not much of a build. They just kind of find each other and are instantly having sex. The spice isn’t necessarily bad, as a matter of fact, I thought it was really good until it’s contextualized. It’s almost like CNC without the C part. Towards the end it got a bit more interesting but it only lasted a little while before falling short again.
