This book is probably a fun easy read if you weren’t once a neurodivergent child who had a very difficult time as the designated social pariah in the prep school you attended. If you were, though, prepare to be retraumatized. It made me empathize a lot with my mother and what she went through in those social circles (my Mom is also an accountant and went through hell trying to protect me from adult women with higher social standing.) All this to say— be wary if you were a bullied weird kid, .but at least it worked out for Aria, just not for me/spoiler> Also I figured out the twist about halfway through the book but that’s okay.

I did not expect to cry so much reading a "heartfelt fantasy satire" but the book really took the heartfelt aspect seriously. All in all more a family upheaval in times of change drama with a fantasy setting than a satire, but a very well written one.
I really enjoyed the buildup, the drama, the mystery and the grand finale and conclusion. Well worth the read!

This was a really fun story, and very unique. Told from a human parent’s perspective integrating into a magical school, it hits on all the elementary school classics of PTO concerns, the early parenting years, and more…but with magic. Parents so rarely get to be the focus of magic stories, so I especially loved this.
A lot of the anxieties hit close to home. The story itself progressed at a good pace, though I got a little stuck in the first quarter. Resolved nicely.
