Fun enough but woefully under-edited and it felt like the narrative let Daniel off too lightly when he was pretty nasty to Vivian.

This was… fine? I struggled to get into it a bit, and it was a lot more about parent drama than about the fantasy world. It wasn’t as funny as I think it was intended to be either. Also, the author’s bio was basically just a resume which was kind of odd but has no bearing on the book.

Yet another fabulous read from Rozakis! My favourite book of the year so far!
Gosh this was a brilliant book from the first chapter. A story with lots of heart, about adapting to life’s curveballs, believing in yourself, and the power of family.
I loved the plot - Vivian and Daniel, two mortals, finding themselves with a newly turned werewolf child and having to integrate into magical society. Aria as a character was so cute and it was lovely watching her grow and adapt to her powers. Vivian’s struggle with her guilt and parent’s influence on parenting was realistic, written well, and made her a relatable and understandable character.
The magical elements of the world were introduced to both the family and the reader well, the world building was fantastic and I loved all the hidden streets and buildings that could only be unlocked with magic. The prophecy was built upon well and the school and parent drama was realistic and used to the stories advantage.
The characters were also fleshed out well and I found myself tearing up at some of the issues Vivian faced, all of them written by Rozakis brilliantly. Rozakis’ writing of Vivian’s therapy sessions were true to life, offered fantastic advice, and a look into Vivian’s past and behaviours. Vivian’s strength, even when she felt she had none, was inspiring and added such heart to this already wonderful story.
I loved Rozakis’ debut Dreadful and this second book has cemented her as an auto-buy author for me. Everything she writes is just fantastic!!
