Nothing in this book went how I anticipated, and it was such a perfect and dark origin.

decent backstory for Snow. still doesn’t top the original trilogy, but I don’t think anything ever will. I would love to see prequels for other characters, but I think this was a well-written prequel for Snow. It was interesting to see this world from his viewpoint.

I’ve been avoiding the movie as long as possible until I had time to read this. Overall it is a great addition to the hunger games series and it wholly explains Snow’s journey. I think the ending was both expected and unexpected, causing me to have mixed feelings about it. I feel like the internal turmoil Snow experiences should have more background and reasoning since it leads to the ultimate demise of his love and the rise of the capitol, but maybe it all just comes down to manipulation by his teachers and the capitol itself. He really did only ever care about himself.

A worthy follow-up to the Hunger Games trilogy, with plenty of chilling references to the original series and thoughtful parallels to current events.

This was a good read but it could have been about 50 pages shorter. The hunger games were different than they were in the movie, slightly different activities to that was good. I appreciated reading this after the movie came out so I could listen to some of the songs instead of reading the poetry. Snow is a creepy boy and it makes me itch to think there’s real people like that out there
