It took a bit to get into, but I loved this sweet, contrived tale. The good guys win in the end and stories tie up too nicely to have any relationship to real life, but some parts of each story were both hilarious and ring true. Fun, quick read.
I love the whole idea of this book. The idea of how a little black dress could affect the lives of nine separate women. There were particular characters that I was rooting for and I really enjoyed reading about. There were others that I did not enjoy as much. The widower and the female detective, as well as the designer, were my favorite plot lines.
4 1/2 stars. I loved it even though I wasn't the target demographic for this book. I had no idea that there even WAS an "it" dress each year. Was that accurate? Makes sense, but I wasn't even really sure that Women's Wear Daily was a magazine. So fashion is not my bag. And these are not really my people, coming from flyover land for a book set entirely in NYC.
I liked the interlocking stories and how some of them developed slowly over time and others were just a flash in the pan in the "life" of this iconic dress. It really made a full circle.
Nicely done and very enjoyable.

This novel intertwines a group of women (and the men in their lives) through the season's hottest little black dress. It is a fun read and would be a great romantic comedy movie in the vein of Garry Marshall's New Year's Eve or Valentine's Day.

A nice slow paced relaxing read if you enjoy character focused books with interwoven storylines.
There were many different storylines and characters involved, and I enjoyed how the author linked them all through the little black dress.
Some storylines were developed more, or the characters made multiple appearances, and I found these easier to follow. There were a few where the characters were only mentioned once or twice, and I found it more difficult to see their place in the larger story.
Overall it was a nice light read, and I especially liked how all the stories were sandwiched between that of the grandfather/pattern maker.

Kinda boring. Her other book Eliza Starts a Rumor is WAYY better. Read that one first. This one can be skipped.
I flipping LOVED this book!! It was so nice to get everyone’s point of view that somehow focused on the dress, and I just ADORE books that are like this. I’d recommend this for sure
