Oh sweet, sweet Sunshine and Talon.
What would the Dark Hunter world be like without these two?!
Sunshine is an adorable dark haired free spirit artist reincarnated soul of Talon's deceased wife from centuries ago. She is very accepting of the things that play out in this book and doesn't seem to mind in the least.
Talon is afraid to love anyone because of a curse set upon him by one of the gods that death will come to anyone he loves.
Of course, it doesn't stop him from falling for his soul mate, duh.
Not a whole lot to say about this book since it wasn't a fav of mine, but hey, can't win 'em all, right!?
I liked this book marginally better than the preceding ones in this series because there was a lot more information on the Hunters in this one. I am finding that the romance parts of these books are their weak point. For instance, Sunshine is attacked in an alley and saved by Talon and takes him home to heal. Immediately she is all hubba hubba and gimme!. I get that these men are supposed to be freakishly attractive but still, there is something so romance novel corny about a woman being all lustful for a guy so soon after she's been attacked.
I find when the H/H are interacting that I can easily skip whole passages. It is only when the Hunters are interacting with each other or we find out some more about Acheron that my interest peaks and the writing soars. The scenes with Zarek were especially wonderful. It is a dangerous thing when a walk on character threatens to steal the book from the hero and Zarek did that. So I am looking forward to his book.
I did like the reincarnation aspect of Sunshine and Talon's past. That one part of it actually pushed their romance from the mundane to the somewhat interesting.

Yeah. This was okay - but I'm not really seeing what all the hype is about for this series. You have two more books to impress Ms. Kenyon, then I'm out.
Don't get me wrong - I didn't hate it - I was just kind of indifferent, I'm not burning with a need to read the next in the series. I liked Talon and Sunshine, though their names are completely hippy (and yeah, I guess Sunshine full out is a hippy). They were good together and worked well together.
The story was interesting. More with the big bad guy, that's what will probably keep me reading. I need to know how he's going to get his. The writing was obviously great, I just wish it were a tad more exciting.
Overall, not a bad story, just didn't have me jonesing for it at all hours.
Sherrilyn Kenyon, I guess you nailed it.

As time has gone on, Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series has waned in quality for me, but I still have favorites within the series. This is one of them. The Dark-Hunter realm is a twist on a typical vampire novel, and heavily steeped in mythology of one pantheon or another. Talon is a Celtic hero, and yet he is so thoroughly modern as well. I enjoy his sense of humor and willingness to take care of forgetful artist Sunshine. One thing I enjoy about this series is that it still gives us glimpses of past heroes and heroines and this one is no exception. Highly recommend!
The thing that compels me to read future books in the series is Acheron. I agree with lots of other reviewers that you lose interest about 1/2 through the book when you have to follow several characters, all similar and the mythology is confusing. I really gave up on trying to understand who everyone was and how they were related. And really, the ending is so predictable that I really didn't care. *shrugs*
What is the difference between porn and female erotic fantasy fiction? In female erotic fantasy fiction the characters have emotional investment in the sex they are having. In addition the men are deeply in love with their female partners. But as in porn, in female erotic fantasy fiction the sex is long, drawn out and, at times, physically impossible.
And that is essentially Night Embrace. We find out about Talon, the Celtic Dark-Hunter from previous instalments and his irresistible attraction to Sunshine, a half native artist who lives in New Orleans. The sad truth is they can't be together because Talon ticked off a Celtic God who then cursed him by killing everyone he ever loved.
Kenyon series is starting to get predictable. While her world building is quite interesting, you have to wonder how much longer Artemis is going to allow Dark Hunters to get their souls back, because she is losing them at a ridiculous rate. You can also see where she is laying the groundwork for several of the next series of romances in this book.
This is a toothache book. Good for when you need a light, quick read to pick you up. But like most literary junk food, too much of this is not good for ya.

The story of Talon and Sunshine was good. I really like that Kenyon has intertwined her stories with gods. It makes it interesting on several levels. And by her way of introducing other characters whose stories will come in later novels, she really hooks the reader in. I'm pretty much dying to read Acheron's story but I've got a while to go before I get there. Still really enjoying the series and haven't hit a low point yet.
