Night Embrace was averagely fun. It wasn’t exactly my favorite thing I’ve ever read but it was a nice little ice cream cone. There were things that I would want to change specifically to this story but in the grand scheme of things we had a lot more world building accomplished here. We meet the Were Hunters and get to know some of our fellow Dark Hunters a little better. So, I suppose it was a successful addition to the series but didn’t include my ideal romantic leads.

In Night Embrace, our romantic leads are Talon and Sunshine. I’m just going to say it: my first thought about Sunshine was “Wow, she’s obnoxious!” That poor girl is just a disaster. I appreciated her kindness and her giving spirit but girl… you got to get your shit together! The whole ditsy, clumsy, manic, pixie, dream girl thing is something that’s particularly grating to my nerves. I like it when heroines are smart and bless her heart, Sunshine just isn’t the brightest crayon in the box. Additionally, I was hoping for more of a sense of humor from Talon. Instead he kind of spent a lot of time just moping and not fighting as many bad guys as he probably should have been.

In the same fashion as the other installments in the series, at times the plot didn’t make much sense and was glaringly obvious. Hopefully I won’t get too spoilery… Talon and Sunshine are clearly connected to each other. We learn that right off the bat and I called the big reveal immediately. They actually reveal the connection several chapters later so I was reading while thinking “Ok, when are they going to get to the point?” There were still some kidnappings that served absolutely no purpose.
Spoiler So Sunshine is kidnapped by the bad guys and forced to take an Atlantean aphrodisiac. Talon and Ash rescue her pretty much right away and it’s super easy. Why bother even taking her if you were basically just going to let her go anyway? What kind of evil plan is that? “Hey, we took your girl but don’t worry because when you rescue her she’s going to be super horny and none of us will have hurt her at all. Enjoy!”
I don’t want to sound like a Negative Nancy because there were some things that were great as well. There were some genuinely funny moments with Nick, Acheron, and Talon’s pet alligator named Beth. Also the smut was particularly steamy which may be in part because Talon is actually allowed to enjoy sex in Night Embrace! That weird no orgasming rule for men is finally done away with. Side note: there is a particularly hot scene involving Talon hanging upside down… that’s all I’ll say!

We also get to know some of the side characters a little better. We meet the werewolves and I’m sure we will be seeing Vane and his brothers for some time to come. We also get to see inside Zarec’s mind a bit and I totally have a soft spot for the guy. He’s kind of like a wounded animal and just needs some basic kindness. Give the guy a break already!!! We also find out a lot more about the mysterious leader of the Dark Hunters, Acheron. I’m betting his past is quite a doozy!
Spoiler I greatly dislike the sexual coercion part with Artemis basically forcing Acheron to sleep with her all the time. That’s really messed up and if the roles were reversed it wouldn’t have been tolerated at all.

So ya… while the romantic leads weren’t really my favorite characters there were still things to be excited about in Night Embrace. The Dark Hunterverse is expanding and I’m fascinated to see where things are going. I think one thing I will take away from my experience is that Sherrilyn Kenyon is becoming a better writer with every book she writes.

This book was so good! I love Talon and all the side characters in this story. Actually, I think I like the side characters in this better than the main characters. My only problem with this book was Sunshine. I just could not relate to her for some reason. I'm excited to read the next books I can't wait to learn more about Zarek and Vane.

This was Talon and Sunshine's story. I have to say I was disappointed, I have always been a fan of Talon but this one did not have the same energy as the others.

What was good though was Zarek, love him and even though I have already read his story, finding out what truly happened was fantastic.

Talon has lived over 500 years as a man without emotion. He's the Dark Hunter that Acheron can always count on for his steadiness and clear thinking...until the night he meets Sunshine when he rescues her from an attack by a group of Daimons. Talon is injured in the process and she helps him to her place where he stays to recuperate.

The intrigue, suspense and romance in this story held my attention and kept me turning the pages. I liked Talon from the start and Sunshine was refreshing. The deceptions perpetrated by the gods kept everyone, including me, off balance. I didn't want to skip a word lest I miss something. Every time there was a lull it was literally the calm before the storm. It seemed as all had ulterior motives so trust was tenuous at best, except between Talon and Sunshine who were at the center of all the action. I don't want to provide any more details so as not to spoil the experience for other readers.

Zarek was introduced in this story and his is next. I cannot wait to find out more about this tragic and fearsome Dark Hunter. This is a great series that builds it's own mythology on that of the Greeks and Romans in a credible and captivating way.

Once again, another banger from Kenyon. This time, the main characters were all right but they weren't my favorite -- because Zarek stole the spotlight. Had Zarek not been a part of this story and made me feel for him so much, I might have been more invested in Talon and Sunshine.

Actually, thats a lie because the more we got to see from Acheron's point of view the more I just wanted to skip to Acheron's story. But I'm reading them in order dammit.

Between Zarek and Acheron, I just wanted to focus on them and not Talon and Sunshine. Which could be because the soul mates storyline isn't usually for me. It's not my favorite trope by any means. It has to be done really well, and while it was nice seeing it play out in the Dark Hunter setting it still didn't make me happy.

Sunshine was goofy and loveable and is a wonderful person. She takes no shit and brings happiness wherever she goes. Talon is moody and broody and just how I like all the Dark Hunter boys, but be still your hearts he shows how tender he is to Sunshine and only to her. To the rest of the world he is a badass. To her, he is mostly a dumbass but he is her dumbass.

4 stars for the quad bear brothers, I'm looking forward to a book about them hopefully in the future. Also 4 stars for Acheron holding a baby. And 4 stars for Zarek being the wild feral cat he is except for beautiful pottery made by a woman who suffers from an attention deficit disorder.

After loving Night Pleasures I was so-so about Night Embrace which centres on Sunshine and Talon. Sunshine is an artist, slightly ditzy, who lives above a biker bar owned by her father. Talon is an ancient Celt Dark-Hunter cursed by the god Camulus.

It's almost Mardi Gras and the Daimons are gathering to par-tay. Acheron drafts in more Dark-Hunters to help guard New Orleans including Zarek, a psychotic Dark-Hunter who was banished to Alaska 900 years ago (I found this inconsistent, one minute we are told that there are thousands of Dark-Hunters the next we are asked to believe that Zarek is the only one available).

It turns out that Camulus, Acheron's evil twin brother Styxx and Artemis' brother Dionysus (yes, him) are conspiring to take over the world by releasing a Big Bad (as Buffy would say). The only way to d this is using Acheron's blood so they need to divide the Dark-Hunters to ensure he is alone and vulnerable.

Like Kyrian before him, Talon's past is his weakness - he loses self-control when his loved ones are in danger and acts irrationally. Also, it seems that Sunshine is acting strangely like his wife - can she be Tynian reincarnated? If so, who does Talon really love - Sunshine or Tynian?

This felt a bit more old-school than Night Pleasures. Hero tortured by mistakes in his past, afraid to fall in love because it will put her life in danger, evil Gods conspiring to unleash the Big Bad (for no good reason) and everything resolved due to a secret no-one knew.

Better then night pleasures but I still want to know how vane and fang are after their sister death.
