As part of our Menyon Book Club, I am rereading all the books in order. I've tried to approach each as if it were the first time. This book is one of the most humor-laced in the series. I mean the two leads meet when he gets rundown by a Mardi Gras float for peets sake! I love this book. You could tell that Sherrilyn was getting a real feel for what the series could be. The subtle layers that would not even come to play for ten or more books are all here. But this is a story about soulmates who find each other again after centuries. Talon and Sunshine are such a wonderful couple. Opposites in every way, but so obviously perfect for each other. I love that she allows her men to be vulnerable without sacrificing any strength. And that her women are strong on their own merit. A great story!

Oh Talon... I wasn't sure what to make of you after meeting you in Kyrian's story but I fell in love with you just the same! It didn't hurt that I'm also of Celtic decent. By the way, that ending with Ash?! Wow! Ms. Kenyon sure knows how to keep the reader engrossed!

Let me start my review by saying that the Dark Hunter series is intricate and complex. Yes, you can jump in at any book but to fully appreciate the overall plotline ( *cough cough* Acheron), I highly recommend reading them in order.

Now that's out of the way let's get into my review- I loved Talon and Sunshines story. I listened to this via audiobook and Carrington MacDuffie nailed Sunshines southern twang right on the head!!!!! She has a unique voice that made differentiating the characters quite easy and her overall tonality was on point.

Talon is your typical bad boy but his past is anything but. In the old days, he let his pride and rage blind him and he pissed off a Celtic God who has been gunning for him ever since and taking away everything he loves. Sunshine is not my typical heroine with her "hippy-dippy" vibe but I enjoyed her sassy demeanor and her sweet, kind heart.

As Sunshine comes to some startling revelations, and Talon learns to come to terms with his tumultuous past, I can't help but swoon at their story. They really were perfectly matched though quite opposite in personality and I adored how they eventually found their way to each other in the end.

One thing that Sherrilyn Kenyon excels at is weaving very minute intricate details that may not seem to contribute to the current story but are essential to the overall plotline. She also pens characters that you can't help rooting for despite their past or circumstances. Her world-building skills and attention to detail are spectacular and even if the individual stories do not wow me, I believe the Dark Hunter universe to be one of the best and well thought out.

My favorite character in this novel is not Talon or Sunshine but rather Zarek. He is my typical broody, dark and dangerous character and I am hella excited to read his story! It would be remiss of me if I did not include a one-liner about the ultimate badass of the entire series- Acheron, the man of my dreams and all-around heartthrob.

This isn't one of my favorites of the series. Though it has some good parts and can be funny, I'm afraid I never really believe in the romance. The "soul mates" trope is overused here. Sunshine is the reincarnation of Talon's dead wife, and I never really believed it was Sunshine herself that he loves, but instead his dead wife.

I really enjoyed this book, Kenyon's characters are all very relateable and (hot). The banter between the dark hunter really shows their unique brotherhood and that despite being dark and scary they are in all terms human like us deep down inside. Sherrilyn's books are hard to put down and are truly amazing and wonderful stories if you read them as standalone or as a series. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It's a great story with lots of twists and unexpected turns!
