The story of Talon and Sunshine.

Ooo Can't wait for Zarek's book! ^.^

Talon & Sunshine. I don't think this will be my favorite book in the series but it was still deserving of the three star rating. First and foremost, I liked the introduction of Zarek. The interactions between Z/Ash and Z/Nick had me cracking up. I also really liked that Ash was focused on just a teensy, tiny bit more. Clearly he is going to wind up being my favorite character overall; it is nice to see him slowly unfolding.

This book focuses on Talon and his soulmate, Sunshine. It was angsty, whiny, and full of sex as these two just couldn't keep their hands off each other. Oh. And surprise! Apparently someone is the granddaughter of a goddess. Wait. What? Okay, I see where this is going.

In any event, this was a fairly easy and painless read. The author makes transitions near seamlessly and doesn't focus on any one point of the story; she weaves it all together to make the journey enjoyable for the reader as everything unfolds. I couldn't wait to get my hands on the next one. Luckily, I have them all lined up, ready and waiting for me.

Unfortunately, I wasn't that big of a fan of Talon's story this ime around. The whole soulmate concept I didn't really like.

i need to take a break from these books, they're starting to annoy me
can i just jump to Acheron?

New Orleans continues to be the site of the Dark-Hunter series. Here we are also introduced to families of shape-shifters—wolves and bears. With all the gods, goddesses, dark-hunters, daimons, and shape-shifters, you have to wonder, just what in the heck IS in the water down there. At any rate, I didn't enjoy this one as much as the other two I have read but am still encouraged to go on with the series. The hardest thing for me to get past was the heroine's name—Sunshine. With hippy parents who named her brothers Storm and Raine, I suppose it is the logical choice but every time I read her name, I had this mental cringe. Perhaps it has something to do with my own name: had my mother had any more girls, they would have been Harmony and Lyric Lee!

I enjoyed this book, seemed like it took forever to get to any good information tho about anyone, but I really enjoyed Talon and Sunshine and it was interesting to get some more insight into Acheron, wasn't sure what to make of Zarek, but I think he grew on me. Nick totally cracks me up! LOVED Vane and Fang! Can't wait to see more of the bear shifters too!

Dear Reader,
Life is great for me. I have my chicory coffee, my warm beignets, and my best friend on the cell phone. Once the sun goes down, I am the baddest thing prowling the night: I command the elements, and I know no fear. For centuries, I've protected the innocent and watched over mankind, making sure they are safe in a world where nothing is ever certain. All I want in return is a hot babe in a red dress, who wants nothing more from me than one night.

Instead, I get a runaway Mardi Gras float that tries to turn me into roadkill and a beautiful woman who saves my life but can't remember where she put my pants. Flamboyant and extravagant, Sunshine Runningwolf should be the perfect woman for me. She wants nothing past tonight, no ties, no long-term commitments.

But every time I look at her, I start yearning for dreams that I buried centuries ago. With her unconventional ways and ability to baffle me, Sunshine is the one person I find myself needing. But for me to love her would mean her death. I am cursed never to know peace or happiness--not so long as my enemy waits in the night to destroy us both

So this is my second time reading this, and while I enjoyed it, I didn't like it as much as I did the first time. Don't get me wrong, but I just wasn't as thrilled with this story... My biggest problem was Talon and Sunshine I think.

Talon was a little too possessive for me. Especially when he realized
SpoilerSunshine was Nynia reincarnated.
I mean, before that, he was doing everything he could (ok, almost everything) to get her out of his mind and let it be the whole one night thing. But after they fully realized what was going on, he got very possessive and caveman-esque and it frustrated me. I liked when Sunshine called him on it
Spoilermentioning that she wasn't his wife in this lifetime (at least not yet)
. There were a couple points when the whole "caveman" thing worked, like in Sanctuary when he stepped up to defend Sunshine. But again, that only worked up to a point and I was frustrated when he got mad at her when she told him about her relationship with Jerry. First of all, she was married to Jerry before she even met Talon (remembering the fact that neither of them knew Nynia had been reincarnated yet) and they'd been divorced for some time before Talon came into the picture.

Sunshine was a little too ditzy/spacey. I mean, there's ditzy and then there's Sunshine. At first, it was a little cute and everything, but then it was more annoying. Like, it was cute when she initially "met" Talon, but at that point, it came across as more flustered--I mean, who wouldn't be flustered when a hot guy is in your bed and you just admitted to destroying his tailor made leather pants and losing his keys? But having to go back to your apartment three different times because you forgot a hairbrush? Not so much. I don't know, I just felt like it was too much. Plus, there were times when it felt like that portion of her personality had been written out--as things were going on, it felt like she was "forgetting" things less. Until it kind of became necessary for the plot (see hairbrush), then it was back in full force. *SHRUGS* But maybe that's just me. I did like when she realized how she felt about Talon, she grabbed on and wasn't going to back down without a fight.

I also had a little problem with Sunshine's whole rant about men/marriage. So she had a bad relationship and the guy turned out to be a real jerk. That doesn't give her the right to say that every guy who wants to get married is going to want the woman to wait on him hand and foot and put her life on hold. I can understand where she might be upset about that and it might cause her to be skittish about getting married again. That's fine. What's not fine is for her to go around badmouthing the whole concept of marriage to everyone else. Just because she had a bad relationship doesn't mean that every other one is going to be the same. So her comments about "why is it always the woman doing..." are not true!

I love the secondary characters and the world the Dark-Hunters inhabit. I love all the mythology and ancient history Sherrilyn Kenyon works into her stories. And the way she does it so that it can connect in some way to the present day storyline.

I felt so bad for Zarek. Part of me thinks his characters acts the way he does because he knows that's what everyone expects, so why let them down? But he's clearly got a softer side
Spoileri.e. Protecting Sunshine from the Daimons outside the club; wanting to buy her pot; fending off the Daimons at the warehouse
and I honestly think his whole death wish is just an act...but that's a story for another time (i.e: [b:Dance with the Devil|84145|Dance with the Devil (Dark-Hunter #3)|Sherrilyn Kenyon|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388703603s/84145.jpg|991924]). Then of course, there's the little interaction between he and Valerius at the end and my interest in his character is perked even more.

Then there's Ash. My heart always breaks for his character. I mean, here's this immortal warrior who's ancient beyond belief and he's essentially tied to a witch because he has a heart. I do like when he gets his jabs in at her, but I wish he would just walk away sooner rather than later (i.e: [b:Acheron|2299110|Acheron (Dark-Hunter #14)|Sherrilyn Kenyon|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1437687512s/2299110.jpg|3202442]). But I do have to point out that I don't like (and never have) that his ties to Artemis can ultimately boil down to him being essentially a sex-slave for her. Not fair (I know the world's not fair, and without this aspect, he wouldn't be the same character (and the story would most likely be completely different), BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I HAVE TO LIKE IT).

All in all, not my favorite, but not my least favorite, entry and it's still a good series. On to [b:Dance with the Devil|84145|Dance with the Devil (Dark-Hunter #3)|Sherrilyn Kenyon|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388703603s/84145.jpg|991924]!!
